Romans 13 - part two
Dr. Roberto Miranda(Audio: Spanish)
SUMMARY:
In the second part of Romans 13, the Apostle Paul reminds Christians to live a life of respect and love towards others, guided by the principle of love. He emphasizes that love is the fulfillment of the law and urges believers not to owe anyone anything but to love one another. He also calls on them to discard the works of darkness and put on the weapons of light, to live honestly and avoid sinful behaviors such as gluttony, drunkenness, lusts, and envy. The life of purity and holiness is the calling of God's children, and they must put on the Lord Jesus Christ and not provide for the desires of the flesh.
The speaker is discussing the importance of living with an eternal perspective in light of the coming of Jesus Christ. They believe that Christ's return is imminent and that Christians must live their lives accordingly. The speaker references the parable of the foolish and wise virgins and the need to be prepared for Christ's return at any moment. They also discuss the signs of the times, including the corruption of humanity and the speeding up of time, and emphasize the importance of living a holy and consecrated life. The speaker encourages Christians to cast off the works of darkness and put on the weapons of light, living lives of transparency and openness. They also reference various biblical passages that describe behaviors to avoid, such as gluttony, drunkenness, lust, and envy.
The passage discusses the importance of living a pure, holy life that is pleasing to the Lord and being aware of the passing time. Christians should invest their time in worthwhile things such as learning more about the Lord, preparing to preach the Gospel, and working for God's work. Christians should also live healthy lives and have healthy fun, as they have to be strong, joyful, and energetic to serve the Lord. Christians should live diligent, consecrated, and active lives that are committed and surrendered to the Lord, as they wait for the second coming of Jesus Christ. The passage ends with a prayer for the Lord to remind Christians day after day that Christ is coming soon, to help them redeem their time and live at a level of purity, integrity, and diligence to the glory of His name.Chapter 13, Romans. Two weeks ago we touched on the first part of Chapter 13 of Romans, so last Sunday we separated it to meditate on the resurrection, being resurrection Sunday. And this morning I am going to complete the Chapter, I was debating whether to simply go to 15, we are already reaching the end of this beautiful study of the epistle to the Romans, it has blessed me a lot personally, to be able to go through such a profound epistle, so rich, but decided, we are going to stop at the second part of Chapter 13. It seems very appropriate to me this morning that we do it in light of all that we have received from the Lord.
Remember that in Romans there are two parts, it's like a book in two parts: the first part is a very exalted part, very theological in content. A revelation about the nature of God's plan, the sin of humanity, the irredeemable nature of humanity by itself, by its own works, the need for a savior who is Jesus Christ, the need for God's grace, the total sinfulness of man as well as grace and mercy and purity, the holiness of God, many beautiful things in those first 12 chapters of Romans. Actually, 11 Chapters, so from Chapter 12 onwards there is a practical part, a part of behavior, of conduct, of how the Christian life should be in light of what God has done to bring us to his plan of salvation.
