The Passover Seder is a significant Jewish holiday that commemorates the time when God passed over the houses of Israel and spared them from death, thanks to the blood of the Passover lamb. This lamb was sacrificed and its blood was applied to the door posts of Jewish homes. The Seder plate contains various symbolic foods, including unleavened bread, bitter herbs, and a shank bone of a lamb. However, with the destruction of the temple in Jerusalem, sacrifices are no longer made. The Messiah Jesus is seen as the ultimate Passover Lamb who takes away the sins of the world. Jews for Jesus is a ministry that seeks to share the Gospel with Jewish people and bring them to faith in Jesus. They rely on the support of others to continue their work. The afikomen, a piece of unleavened bread, is broken, buried, and brought back, symbolizing the death and resurrection of Jesus.

Our faith is personal, but never private: the Spirit sends us beyond the walls of the church to be light and salt, proclaim good news, and care holistically for the poor, prisoners, the oppressed, and the rejected. Just as a father focuses on his sick child without ceasing to love the others, God draws near with special care to those who suffer; therefore, their need must be at the heart of our ministry, not a secondary program.

To transform the city, we need six essential ingredients. First, we must embrace Jesus’ mission as our own. Second, we must form teams in which each person contributes their gifts. Third, we must serve with compassion and personal care, recognizing the dignity of every human being. Fourth, we must act creatively and persevere in the face of obstacles, like the friends who opened the roof to bring the paralyzed man to Jesus. Fifth, we must expect criticism when we welcome and seek out those whom others exclude, trusting that God transforms imperfect lives. Sixth, we must accept changes in structures and methods: new wine requires new wineskins. We cannot wait for those in need to come to us; we must go out to meet them and serve them in every dimension of life.

Jesus has the power to sustain us and give us victory when we face realities beyond our strength. In the storm, he showed authority over external forces, but the main lesson is not that the Christian life is free from affliction: storms will come and will not always be taken away; if our lives are anchored in the will of God, we can rest confidently in the midst of them. By setting free the man who was under the control of unclean spirits, Jesus demonstrated power over inner struggles, sin, and bonds that seem impossible to overcome, for he is able to break chains and restore lives and homes. By healing the sick and marginalized woman, he showed power over physical, emotional, and spiritual suffering. She was not received because of her knowledge or position, but because she approached him in faith. The same Christ also conquers death. Therefore, when we cannot prevail on our own, we must draw near to Jesus, cling to him, ask for his transforming touch, and publicly take the step of faith to receive him, trusting that his power continues to heal, set free, and renew.
