Our prompt help
Charles SpurgeonHelp that is not prompt when we need it is of little value. The anchor left at home is of no use to the sailor in stormy weather; The money that the debtor used to have is worthless when there is a lawsuit against him. Very few earthly aids could be called "prompt" : they are usually far away when sought, can be used with difficulty, and farther away once used. But as for the Lord our God, He is available when we seek Him, available when we need Him, and available when we have already enjoyed His help.
He is more than "available", He is very available. More available than the closest friend can be, for He is in us in our tribulation; more available than we are to ourselves, for sometimes we lack presence of mind. He is always available, efficiently available, sympathetically available, fully available. He is available now if this is a gloomy season. Let us rest in Him. He is our shelter, let us hide ourselves in Him; He is our strength, let us keep ourselves with Him; He is our help, let us lean on Him; He is our quick help, let us rest in Him now. We should not worry for a moment, nor should we fear for an instant. "The Lord of hosts is with us; our refuge is the God of Jacob."
