A shelter in stormy weather
Charles SpurgeonWe all know who it is. Who could it be but the Second Man, the Lord of heaven, the Man of sorrows, the Son of man? What a hiding place He has been for His people! He himself endures the full force of the wind, and thus protects those who hide in Him. We have thus escaped the wrath of God, and in this way we will escape the wrath of men, the cares of this life, and the fear of death. Why do we expose ourselves to the wind when we could be promptly and safely protected by hiding behind our Lord? Let us run to Him this day, and be at peace.
Often the common wind of affliction rises in its strength and turns into a tempest, sweeping away everything in front of it. The things that seemed firm and stable are shaken by the gale, and many and great are the falls between our carnal trusts. Our Lord Jesus, the glorious Man, is a refuge that is never broken down. In Him we watch the storm raging, but we ourselves rest in delightful serenity.
Today we must take refuge in our hiding place, and sit and sing under the protection of our shelter. Blessed Jesus! Blessed Jesus! How much we love you! We do well, for You are for us a hiding place in stormy weather.
