But there the glorious LORD will be unto us a place of broad rivers and streams; wherein shall go no galley with oars, neither shall gallant ship pass thereby. (Isaiah 33:21)
He that believeth on me, as the scripture hath said, out of his belly shall flow rivers of living water. (John 7:38)
Charles Spurgeon

God's perfect blessings

The Lord's blessings are the highest good for us, without any of the disadvantages that come with earthly things. Even when using the metaphor of wide rivers to represent abundance, the Lord takes care to exclude any fear that may come with it. The author asks that if the Lord blesses them with riches, health, happiness, or success, they also ask for protection from pride, worldliness, arrogance, and self-confidence. They ask for blessings that enrich without adding sadness or favoring sin. Read more...

Comments:

Enrique Meneses Muñoz : I thank GOD for so many blessings he gives me every day. Hallelujah.
Hallelujah! It is wonderful to recognize and thank God for all the blessings he gives us every day. As Charles Spurgeon's devotional mentions, God is our highest good and provides us with abundance without the disadvantages that usually accompany earthly things. In Isaiah 33:21, God is described as "A place of rivers and wide canals, where no rowed boat will travel, nor will a powerful ship pass through it." This means that when God blesses us, there is no room for fear or worry, because His love is perfect. As believers, we can trust that God will give us the blessings that enrich our lives without adding sadness or encouraging sin. What a privilege to have such a generous and loving God! Let us continue to give thanks for all the blessings we receive from him.
Óscar Rodríguez : Amen, it is a reality but no one escapes from being a sinner.
Amen, brother Oscar. It is true that we are all sinners and that we fail at times. However, the good news is that in John 7:38 we are told: "Whoever believes in me, as the Scripture has said, 'Rivers of living water will flow from the depths of his being.'" Even though we are sinners, When we believe in Jesus, He pours out His Holy Spirit within us and enables us to live a transformed life. Through faith in Christ, we can experience the grace, forgiveness, and redemption he offers us. So, even though we are sinners, we can trust that God forgives and transforms us, and strengthens us to overcome sin and live according to his will. Let us continue to trust in the saving work of Jesus in our lives!
Carlos A. Borja Flores: What a good devotional, since it teaches us that God's blessings must be received without any human pretension: Lord, give me blessings that enrich, without bringing sadness or sin.
Hi Carlos! I agree with you, Charles Spurgeon's devotional teaches us the importance of receiving God's blessings without any human pretense. As you mention, it is beautiful to pray with humility and sincerity, asking God to give us blessings that enrich our lives, but that do not bring us sadness or distance us from his path. In Psalm 37:4 we are told, "Delight yourself also in the Lord, and he will give you the desires of your heart." When we delight in the Lord, seeking His will and trusting in His love, we can be sure that He will give us the blessings that are for our well-being and spiritual growth. Let us continue to pray sincerely and trust that God will give us the best blessings, always in line with his perfect plan for our lives. May you continue to be enriched by God's blessings!
Francisco Diaz S.: Lord, make us rich in knowledge and humble in heart.
Amen, Francisco. Your comment reflects a beautiful attitude of recognition of our dependence on God and desire to grow in knowledge and humility. Charles Spurgeon's devotional mentions the importance of not allowing earthly blessings, such as wealth or success, to lead us to arrogance and self-confidence. Instead, we can pray as you have expressed, asking God to enrich us in knowledge and, at the same time, keep us humble of heart. The book of Proverbs teaches us in chapter 2, verse 6: "For the Lord gives wisdom; knowledge and knowledge flow from his lips." When we seek God and long for His wisdom, He grants it to us and enriches us with knowledge that helps us grow in faith and understanding of His will. And at the same time, humility is an essential quality to draw closer to God and be receptive to his teaching. May the Lord bless you and guide you in your search for knowledge and humility, and may His grace be with you at all times. Keep growing in the wisdom of God!
Moisés Mora: Just be grateful forever and ever even when everything gets dark, don't fear, don't fear, your light will shine.
Hello Moses! What a beautiful and powerful message you share with us! Indeed, being grateful to God at all times, even when we face difficult situations or moments of darkness, is an act of faith and trust in his love and faithfulness. As you say, we should not fear, because the light of God will always shine in our lives. In Psalm 27:1, the psalmist declares: "The Lord is my light and my salvation; of whom shall I fear? The Lord is the strength of my life; of whom shall I be afraid?" We trust that God is our light in the midst of darkness, our salvation in times of difficulty and our strength in times of weakness. When we thank God in all circumstances, even if we do not understand his purpose or do not see a clear way out, we are expressing our faith that his light and guidance will always accompany us. Let us continue to trust that God will never abandon us and that his radiance will always illuminate our path. May God's light continue to shine in your life!
