In thee have they taken gifts to shed blood; thou hast taken usury and increase, and thou hast greedily gained of thy neighbours by extortion, and hast forgotten me, saith the Lord GOD. (Ezekiel 22:12)
And whatsoever ye do, do it heartily, as to the Lord, and not unto men; (Colossians 3:23)

The value of not expecting a reward

The movie 'The Orchid Thief' highlights the importance of doing things for others without expecting anything in return. Debt is not always monetary, it can be emotional, and expecting something in return for a favor is a sophisticated way of enslaving someone. Christ never expected anything in return and showed unconditional love. Let us also show unconditional love and not judge others by their actions, but rather understand the reasons behind them. Jorge Pérez : Enriching preaching
Thanks for your comment, George! I am glad that you have found an enriching reflection in this devotional by Milagros García Klibansky. It caught my attention when she says "Love expects no return" and this reminded me of a part of the Bible that says "Whatever you do, do it with your heart, as for the Lord and not for men" (Colossians 3:23 ). I think this is a good guide for our actions and attitudes towards others, as it reminds us that our service should not be to seek earthly rewards, but to honor God. Has it ever happened to you that you have done something for someone expecting something in return and ended up disappointed? I would love to know your opinion. Also, if you're interested, Milagros suggests reading Matthew 18:23-35 as further reading.
Francisco Diaz S. : Kindness and good will are possessed by men with a noble heart; contempt, haughtiness and arrogance are possessed by mean and hard-hearted men.- Thank you Dra, Milagros for your message.
What beautiful words, Francisco! I share with you that kindness and goodwill are characteristics of those who have a noble heart. It reminded me of a part of the Bible that says "In you a bribe has been received to shed blood; you have taken interest and usury, and you have harmed your neighbors, extorting them and you have forgotten Me," declares the Lord GOD. (Ezekiel 22:12). As Milagros points out in her devotional, when we do something for others expecting something in return, this can become a form of slavery or moral debt with the other person. It is important to remember that love does not expect reward, but is given completely. I'm glad you found this message valuable and I hope it has inspired you to reflect on your own attitudes towards others. Have a good day!
Sabino Marroquín López: The love that I feel for children makes me look for a way to help them for their livelihood, and I ask my God to help me, thank you, my God, amen
How beautiful what you share, Sabino! It is wonderful when our love for others motivates us to find ways to help them and be a source of blessing in their lives. As Milagros García Klibansky points out in her devotional, doing things for others without expecting anything in return is a sign of unconditional love, and this is something that God himself teaches us through his example in the life of Christ. It reminded me of a part of the Bible that says "He who gives to the poor will have no need, but he who turns his eyes away will receive many curses" (Proverbs 28:27). I am sure that God will bless you for your generous attitude towards children and for finding ways to help them. May God continue to guide you in your labor of love for others!
Luciano Alonso Neria : Very good word, God bless your lives.
Thank you for your comment Luciano! I am glad that you have found in this devotional by Milagros García Klibansky a good word that has blessed you. As she well points out in her text, unconditional love is a virtue that we must cultivate, and this implies doing things for others without expecting anything in return. It reminded me of a part of the Bible that says "For God so loved the world that he gave his only Son, so that everyone who believes in him should not perish but have eternal life" (John 3:16). God shows us his unconditional love through Jesus Christ, and we can reflect that love in our actions toward others. May God bless you too in your walk of faith!
Gustavo Martinez Afanador : If we do something or favor, we do not expect anything in return, let us do it as if it were for the LORD, all out of love with a desire to serve from the heart, because God taught us to love, not expect the favor to be returned, because the profits or reward He is in heaven with my God. Blessings
What a beautiful reflection, Gustavo! I share with you that when we do something for others, we must do it with love and without expecting anything in return, as if it were for the Lord. As Milagros García Klibansky points out in her devotional, unconditional love is a virtue that we must cultivate, and this implies doing things for others without expecting anything in return. It reminded me of a part of the Bible that says "And I tell you the truth, whoever gives one of these little ones a cup of cool water in the name of a disciple, truly I tell you, he will not lose his reward" (Matthew 10 :42). God promises us rewards in heaven for our good works done in love, we should not focus on the earthly reward but on doing his will. May God bless you too in your walk of faith!
Rocío Trejo Gómez : What an enriching devotional from Sister. Miracle, which makes me reflect; that I always believe that we only give to others and do not see what others give to us. God bless you always.
What a beautiful reflection, Rocío! What you mention is true, sometimes we focus so much on giving to others that we forget that they also give us many valuable things, be it in the form of love, friendship, support, among other things. As Milagros García Klibansky points out in her devotional, unconditional love is a virtue that we must cultivate, and this implies doing things for others without expecting anything in return. It reminded me of a part of the Bible that says "Whatever you do, do it with your heart, as for the Lord and not for men" (Colossians 3:23). It is important to do things with love, and not expect an earthly reward but to do God's will. May God bless you too in your walk of faith!
Alba Fuentes: Amen, amen, you have to do everything as for God without expecting a reward from man because the best reward comes from God.
Amen Alba! I share with you that when we do something for others, we must do it with love and without expecting anything in return, as if it were for the Lord.
