Worshiping in Style

The fact that we were created by God is what places the need to worship in our hearts. Many people understand worship to mean going to church every day and singing songs whose lyrics, incidentally, we sometimes do not examine, nor do we take to heart what we are saying to God.

One example of this is the song “I Want More of You.” In it, we ask God to break our hearts. Have you stopped to think about what may come into our lives if God sets out to break our hearts? Are we truly prepared to be transformed through trials of this kind? This is why Paul tells us in 1 Corinthians 14:15, “What then? I will pray with the spirit, but I will also pray with understanding; I will sing with the spirit, but I will also sing with understanding.”

The mere act of singing praises is not worship. Worship goes beyond a song; it is the complete, humble surrender of our lives to Him, so that we may live in a way that pleases Him and, in doing so, testify that He lives in us.

When we see a brother or sister in the faith set a bad example, we feel deeply ashamed, because unfortunately, when the world talks about what happened, people do not mention the person's name, but they make very sure to point out that the person is a Christian.

With every step we take in this life, the people around us scrutinize us—and Christians more than others—because we bring the precious message of Salvation to the world.

When the psalmist spoke of the beauty of holiness, he was urging us to live a life of holiness that glorifies our King. And a life of holiness is far more than mere songs of praise; it is a way of life woven into how we face each day, so that we draw everyone to us like a magnet.

So, knowing what pleases God—because He left us His Word so that we would not lose our way—let us live with style, with the style that comes from being called a legitimate child of God.

Examine your actions, so that your Father's name may be the emblem with which everyone longs to be sealed.
