No one can harm those who trust the living God

SUMMARY: Foolish and superstitious fears are cut by trust in God. Even if witchcraft and omens were true, they could not harm God's people. The wicked may plot against them, but they are doomed to fail without the Lord's help. Spells and divination will not work against those who trust in God. We have power with God and no one can prevail against us. We need not fear the devil or any secret enemies, as they cannot harm those who trust in God.
How should this cut the roots and branches of all foolish and superstitious fears! Even if there were some truth to witchcraft and omens, they could not affect the Lord's people. Those whom God blesses, demons cannot curse.
The wicked, like Balaam, can cunningly plot to destroy the Israel of God; but despite all its secrecy and its politics are doomed to failure. His gunpowder is wet and his sword has lost its edge. They meet; but since the Lord is not with them, they come together in vain. We can stand still, and let them weave their nets, for we will not be caught in them. Even if they requested Beelzebub's help, and used all their viper cunning, it would be of no use to them: spells will not work and divination will deceive them.
What a great blessing this is! How it calms the heart! The Jacob of God fight with God, but no one will fight with them to prevail. The Israel of God have power with God and prevail, but no one will have power to prevail against them. We are not to fear neither the devil himself, nor any of those secret enemies whose words are full of deception, and whose plans are deep and unfathomable. They cannot harm those who trust the living God. We challenge the devil and all his legions.
