Summary: The prospect of God’s universal kingdom is not a dream but a certainty founded on the infallible Word. Although rebellion, false lords, and a diversity of ideas—even among professing Christians—abound today, the day will come when Jehovah will be known by all nations, and there will be one King and one name for the living God. We need not debate when this will happen: the earth will be filled with the glory of the Lord. The death of Jesus, the work of the Spirit, and the eternal purposes of the Father will not be thwarted. Therefore, we cry, “Your kingdom come,” and face our daily work and struggle strengthened in faith.

What a blessed prospect! This is not the dream of an enthusiast, but the declaration of the infallible Word. Jehovah will be known among all nations, and His gracious influence will be acknowledged by all the tribes of men. Today this is far from being the case.

Where does anyone bow before the Great King? How much rebellion there is! How many lords and how many gods there are upon the earth! Even among professing Christians, what a diversity of ideas there is concerning Him and His Gospel! One day there will be one King, one Jehovah, and one name for the living God. O God, hasten that day! We cry out daily: Your kingdom come.

We will not debate the question of when this will be. As surely as the Holy Spirit spoke through His prophets, so surely will the earth be filled with the glory of the Lord. Jesus did not die in vain. The Spirit of God does not work in vain. The eternal purposes of the Father will not be frustrated. Here, where Satan triumphed, Jesus will be crowned, and the Lord God Omnipotent will reign. Let us go on our way to our daily work and to our warfare, strengthened in faith.
