We Prefer God to Choose for Us
He chooses our inheritance for us. — Psalms 47:4

Summary: We can rest because God, in His infinite wisdom, orders our destiny and will not allow our enemies to determine our portion. Aware of our foolishness, we prefer that He choose for us rather than govern our lives according to our own judgment. We are safer when the Lord directs our course, so we place the painful present and the unknown future in His hands. We must relinquish our stubborn ego, lay our desires at Jesus’ feet, and hand Him the reins. Our freest choice is to trust fully in His sovereignty and choose to let Him have the final say over us.
Our enemies want to assign us a very grievous portion, but we shall not be delivered into their hands. The Lord will cause us to remain in our place, in the place appointed for us by His infinite wisdom. A mind wiser than ours arranges our destiny. The ordering of all things belongs to God, and we are glad that it is so; we prefer that God choose for us. If things could be our way, we would wish for all things to be God's way.
Being conscious of our own foolishness, we do not wish to govern our destinies. We feel safer and more at ease when the Lord directs the course of our ship than if we could steer it ourselves according to our own judgment. Joyfully, we place our painful present and our unknown future in the hands of our Father, our Savior, and our Comforter.
O my soul, lay all your desires at Jesus' feet this day! If lately you have been somewhat wayward and stubborn, eager to be and to do whatever your own mind dictates, now cast aside your foolish self and place the reins in the Lord's hands. Say, “He shall choose.” If others dispute the Lord's sovereignty and glory in man's free will, answer them decisively: “He will choose for me.” My freest decision is that He decide for me. As a free agent, I choose that He have the entire decision.
