There Is Still Forgiveness for You
I will not execute the fierceness of my anger. I will not return to destroy Ephraim: For I am God, and not man; the Holy One in the midst of you; And I will not come in wrath. — Hosea 11:9

Summary: The Lord calls us to consider our ways and confess our sins, even when calamity makes us fear imminent condemnation. His patience is unlike human patience: although our sin deserves His wrath, He does not hold on to it forever. Because God is God and not a man, there is still forgiveness, even for someone deeply mired in iniquity. We must not remain in despair; we can come to Jesus now, turn away from sin, confess, believe, and turn back from our evil ways. In this way, we will find the salvation His mercy offers.
The Lord thus makes known His patient mercies. It may be that the reader is in the midst of a grave calamity, and everything threatens swift condemnation. Let the text, then, draw you out of despair.
The Lord now invites you to consider your ways and confess your sins. If He were a man, He would have cut you off long ago. If He were to act now as men do, there would be a word and a blow, and then you would meet your end; but it is not so, for “As the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways higher than your ways.”
You rightly judge that He is angry, but He does not keep His anger forever: if you turn from sin and come to Jesus, God will turn from His anger. Because God is God and not man, there is still forgiveness for you, even if you were sunk up to your throat in iniquity. You have a God to deal with, not a harsh man, or even merely a just man. No human being could have patience with you: you would have wearied an angel, just as you have wearied a grieving father; but God is patient. Come and put Him to the test at once. Confess, believe, and turn back from your evil way, and you will be saved.
