The Whole Truth

Truth is like a vast cavern that we long to enter but cannot explore alone. Its entrance is clear and bright; but if we went deeper and explored its most hidden recesses, we would need a guide or we would lose our way.

The Holy Spirit, who knows all truth perfectly, is the guide appointed for all true believers. He leads them according to their capacity, from one inner chamber to another, so that they may behold the deepest things of God and His secret may be clearly revealed to them. What a great promise this is for a humble, inquiring mind! We desire to know the truth and to go deeper into it.

We are aware of our own tendency to err, and we feel the urgent need for a guide. We rejoice that the Holy Spirit has come and dwells among us. He condescends to act as our guide, and we gladly accept His leadership. We desire to learn “all the truth,” lest we become one-sided and lose our balance. We do not want to remain willfully ignorant of any part of revelation, lest we miss a blessing or fall into sin. The Spirit of God has come to guide us into all truth: let us listen to His words with obedient hearts and follow His guidance.
