Tell the Lord All About Your Pain, and Leave It All with Him

Summary: When pain overwhelms us, we can cast our burden on the Lord and leave it there. If we must still bear it, He will sustain us: the weight will remain, but His help will enable us to stand upright and even receive a blessing. We need not fear that the trial will draw us away from our duty, for in Jesus we are accepted as righteous, and He will keep us steadfast. In the face of today’s affliction, let us tell the Lord everything that hurts. Instead of laying down the burden only to pick it up again, let us entrust it to Him completely; then we can walk in freedom and praise Him with joy.
Since it is a heavy burden, cast it upon Omnipotence. Now it is your burden, and it crushes you; but when the Lord takes it, it will become as nothing. If you are still called to bear it, “he will sustain you.” It will be upon you, and yet it will not be upon you. You will be upheld in such a way that the burden will be a blessing. Ask the Lord to intervene, and you will stand very upright beneath the weight that, by itself, would bend you down.
Our chief fear is that our trial will turn us from the path of duty; but the Lord will never allow that. If we are righteous before Him, He will not let our affliction move us from our position. In Jesus, He accepts us as righteous, and in Jesus, He will keep us so.
And what about the present moment? Are you facing today’s trial alone? Must your poor shoulders be injured by the oppressive burden? Do not be so foolish. Tell the Lord all about your pain, and leave it all with Him. Do not throw your burden to the ground only to pick it up again; cast it upon the Lord, and leave it there. Then you will walk in freedom as a joyful believer who has been relieved of the burden, and you will sing the praises of your great Burden-Bearer.
