Favored People
Surely the righteous will give thanks to your name. The upright will dwell in your presence. — Psalms 140:13
If I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again, and will receive you to myself; that where I am, you may be there also. — John 14:3

Summary: We long for an upright heart that blesses the Lord and gives him thanks each day. Although integrity may lead us through severe trials for a time, we must not yield to evil suggestions or abandon our principles. The day will come when we thank God for guiding us along the right path. The promise for the upright is that they will remain accepted in his presence, enjoy his favor, and have fellowship with him. Let us ask to be upright in all we do, so that we may live before God today and every day and always give thanks to his name.
Oh, I long for my heart to be upright, so that I may always bless the name of the Lord! He is so good to those who are good that I yearn to be counted among them and to feel full of gratitude every day. The righteous may be shaken for a time when their integrity leads them into severe trials; but the day will surely come when they bless their God
for not having yielded to wicked suggestions or adopted shifting policies. In the end, true men will thank the God of the righteous for having led them along the straight path. Oh, that I might be counted among them!
What a promise is contained in this second clause, “the upright shall dwell in your presence”! They will remain accepted while others will only be condemned. They will be courtiers of the Great King and will enjoy an audience whenever they desire one. They will be favored people upon whom Jehovah smiles and with whom he enjoys gracious communion. Lord, I aspire to this exalted honor, this precious privilege: it will be heaven on earth if I can enjoy it. Make me upright in all my affairs, so that I may be in Your heavenly presence today, tomorrow, and every day. Then I will give thanks to Your name forever. Amen.
