Summary: The world is covered in darkness, but Jesus came so that, through faith, we might have light and not remain under the shadow of death. Although some clouds may gather over us, believing in Him grants us the privilege of abundant and enduring light. Jesus frees us from natural depravity, ignorance, doubt, despair, sin, and terror. Therefore, we must shake off depression, leave the darkness behind, and dwell in the light. In Jesus are our hope, our joy, and our heaven; by looking to Him alone, we will enjoy the gladness that His presence brings.

This world is as dark as midnight; Jesus has come so that, through faith, we may have light and no longer remain in the darkness that covers all the rest of humanity.

Whoever is a very broad term: it means you and me. If we trust in Jesus, we will no longer remain under the dark shadow of death, but will enter the warm light of a day that will never end. Why do we not come out into the light at once?

A cloud may sometimes loom over us, but we will not remain in darkness if we believe in Jesus. He has come to provide us with abundant daylight. Will He come in vain? If we have faith, we have the privilege of sunlight: we must enjoy it. Jesus has come to free us from the night of natural depravity, ignorance, doubt, despair, sin, and terror; and all believers will know that He does not come in vain, any more than the rising sun does, unfailingly spreading its warmth and light.

Shake off your depression, beloved brother. Do not remain in darkness, but dwell in the light. In Jesus are your hope, your joy, your heaven. Look to Him, and to Him alone, and you will rejoice as the birds delight in the sunrise, and as the angels rejoice before the throne.
