Summary: Just as the sun invites us outdoors to seek pasture, conscious fellowship with our Lord draws us out of despondency and leads us to trust and joy. The promise that we will go out and leap calls us to walk in freedom and feed on infinite love. Let us not remain children in grace: under the care of our Redeemer, we can grow in the grace and knowledge of our Lord and Savior. The Sun of Righteousness has risen for us; let us open our hearts to His rays and grow in Him.
Yes, when the sun shines, the sick leave their rooms and walk outside to breathe fresh air. When the sun brings spring and summer, the cattle leave their stalls and seek pasture on the steepest slopes of the Alps.
In the same way, when we enjoy conscious communion with our Lord, we leave the stall of dejection and walk freely through the fields of holy confidence. We climb the mountains of joy and feed on the sweet pasture that grows closer to heaven than the fodder of fleshly men.
“You shall go forth” and “you shall leap” form a twofold promise. O my soul, be eager to enjoy both blessings! Why should you be a prisoner? Rise and walk in freedom. Jesus says that His sheep will go in and out and find pasture; go out, then, and feed in the rich meadows of infinite love.
Why should you remain a babe in grace? Grow. Calves grow quickly, especially when they are fed in their stalls; and you enjoy the special care of your Redeemer. Grow, then, in grace and in the knowledge of your Lord and Savior. Do not be cramped or limited in your growth. The Sun of Righteousness has risen for you. Respond to His rays as buds respond to the natural sun. Open your heart, expand, and grow up in all things in Him.
