Speak to the children of Israel, saying, Appoint out for you cities of refuge, whereof I spake unto you by the hand of Moses:
(Joshua 20:2)Peace I leave with you, my peace I give unto you: not as the world giveth, give I unto you. Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid.
(John 14:27) Shelter for all weather
The church is meant to be a place of refuge for sinners who seek God's grace through faith in Jesus Christ. Just as God commanded Joshua to establish cities of refuge for murderers, the church becomes a city of refuge when Jesus is the center of all that it does and envisions. However, there are some who come to the church looking for refuge for convenience or to acquire a new identity, rather than for Christ. The difference between the cities of refuge established by Joshua and the Church of the Savior of the World is that in the latter, even murderers who are found guilty in the world can be forgiven and find salvation through the grace of Jesus. The church must also be a refuge for good soldiers of Christ who may fall in spiritual warfare, providing love and grace for the wounded who seek comfort and help.
