Before I was afflicted I went astray: but now have I kept thy word. (Psalm 119:67)
For our light affliction, which is but for a moment, worketh for us a far more exceeding and eternal weight of glory; (2 Corinthians 4:17)

In his devotional, Dr. Roberto Miranda encourages us to be willing to endure certain times of waiting and trials, trusting that God is working in their midst. He mentions that our difficulties can be the dark background to show the glory of God, like a diamond on a black velvet cloth. Your desire to have the strength to trust in Him is a reflection of this faith. I can imagine how difficult it has been for you to get through this painful time.
