A bruised reed shall he not break, and the smoking flax shall he not quench: he shall bring forth judgment unto truth. (Isaiah 42:3)
Him that is weak in the faith receive ye, but not to doubtful disputations. (Romans 14:1)

Our position on people weak in faith

In Romans 14 and 15, Paul talks about the position we should hold towards people who are weak in faith, those who are overly concerned about holiness and who think that any type of food can be contrary to what God wants. Paul calls on the stronger believers to have kindness and mercy towards those who are weaker and to not judge or condemn them. The priority in the Christian life is not to be a stumbling block in the process of sanctification of another brother or of a congregation or an unbeliever who is beginning to take his first steps in the ways of faith, but rather to be resources for them. Paul urges those who are strong to endure the infirmities of the weak and not to please themselves, instead, to reach out to others so that they can become firm and strong like us. This creates a church filled with the Spirit of Jesus Christ, His mercy, and His goodness, which will be protected from the devil. Read more...

Comments:

Francisco Diaz S.: I want mercy and not sacrifice: because I have not come to call the just, but sinners to repentance. (Matthew 9: 13).- We are followers of Christ.
Thanks for your comment, Francis! Indeed, as followers of Christ, we are called to practice mercy. As the verse you quote mentions, Jesus said: "I want mercy and not sacrifice" (Matthew 9:13). This means that God values love and compassion for others more than any form of external sacrifice. In Dr. Roberto Miranda's devotional, the importance of having mercy with those who are weak in faith is also highlighted. The apostle Paul teaches us in Romans 14:1 to accept the weak in faith, without judging their opinions. As Dr. Miranda says, "instead of pleasing ourselves precisely because we are strong, we have to postpone our own comfort and reach out to others so that they can become as firm and strong as we are" (Dr. Roberto Miranda). So, as followers of Christ, we must show mercy and compassion towards those who are weak in faith, avoiding judgment and criticism. Let us follow the example of Jesus, who came to call sinners to repentance. May God help us to be channels of his love and mercy in our lives!

Thanks for your comment, Gustavo! You are absolutely right, the Lord Jesus taught us to love one another and not to be indifferent towards those who are weak in faith.
