An End to War
He will judge between the nations, and will decide concerning many peoples; And they shall beat their swords into plowshares, and their spears into pruning-hooks. Nation shall not lift up sword against nation, neither shall they learn war any more. — Isaiah 2:4
The times of ignorance therefore God overlooked. But now he commands that all people everywhere should repent, because he has appointed a day in which he will judge the world in righteousness by the man whom he has ordained; of which he has given assurance to all men, in that he has raised him from the dead. — Acts 17:30-31

Summary: Although nations continue to arm themselves and create ever more terrible means of destruction, a day will come when peace prevails and those instruments serve better purposes. We cannot rely on trade, civilization, or arbitration to establish lasting peace. It will come through the reign of the Prince of Peace: He will teach by His Spirit, renew hearts by His grace, and subdue human violence by His power. Let us pray today that the Lord will soon bring an end to war and establish harmony throughout the world.
Oh, that these happy times had already come! At present, nations are heavily armed and are still inventing more and more terrible weapons, as though humanity’s chief purpose could only be fulfilled by destroying myriads of its own kind. Yet peace will prevail one day; yes, and it will prevail so thoroughly that instruments of destruction will be reshaped and put to better uses.
How will this come about? Through commerce? Through civilization? Through arbitration? We do not think so. Past experience prevents us from trusting such feeble instruments. Peace will be established only by the reign of the Prince of Peace. He will teach the people by His Spirit, renew their hearts by His grace, and reign within them by His supreme power; then they will cease to wound and kill. Once his blood is boiling, man is a monster, and only the Lord Jesus can turn this lion into a lamb. When the human heart is changed, its bloodthirsty passions are subdued. May every reader of this book of promises offer a special prayer today to the Lord and Giver of Peace, that He may soon put an end to war and establish harmony throughout the world.
