Summary: Jesus is our hiding place in time of storm. He bears the force of the wind and protects those who take refuge in Him. Thus we have escaped the wrath of God and can face the wrath of men, the cares of life, and the fear of death. When affliction becomes a tempest, it shakes even what seemed firm and tears down our fleshly confidences; but our Lord is never overcome. We need not expose ourselves to the wind: let us run to Him today. Under His protection we can rest in peace and sing while the storm rages.

The Unshakeable SanctuaryLiving in His Presence

We all know of Whom this speaks. Who could it be but the Second Man, the Lord from heaven, the Man of Sorrows, the Son of Man? What a hiding place He has been for His people!

He Himself bears the full force of the wind, and thus protects those who hide in Him. In this way we have escaped the wrath of God, and in this way we shall escape the wrath of men, the cares of this life, and the fear of death. Why do we expose ourselves to the wind when we could be promptly and safely sheltered if we hid behind our Lord? Let us run to Him today and be at peace.

Often the ordinary wind of affliction rises in strength and becomes a tempest, sweeping away everything in its path. Things that seemed firm and stable are shaken by the gale, and many and great are the falls among our fleshly confidences. Our Lord Jesus, the glorious Man, is a refuge that is never brought down. In Him we watch the tempest rage, while we ourselves rest in delightful serenity.

Today we must take refuge in our hiding place, and sit and sing beneath the shelter of our refuge. Blessed Jesus! Blessed Jesus! How we love You! And rightly so, for You are to us a hiding place in the time of storm.
