SUMMARY: In the epistle of Titus, the Apostle Paul advises Pastor Titus on how to deal with a difficult and troubled community. He emphasizes the importance of preaching sound doctrine and rebuking people when necessary. Paul then gives a list of characteristics that should be emphasized in the congregation, including sobriety, seriousness, prudence, and dignity. For the elderly in the congregation, they should be healthy in faith, love, and patience. The word "sober" refers to being in control of one's appetites and impulses, while "serious" refers to having a certain dignity and honorable behavior. "Prudent" means thinking things through and speaking with discretion. Overall, these characteristics form a profile of a mature Christian who is controlled by God's word.

In this sermon, the speaker talks about the qualities of a mature man and woman in the Lord, including being sober, serious, and prudent. They should be healthy in faith, love, and patience, and not be slanderers or slaves to wine. The older women in the congregation should mentor and teach the younger women to love their husbands and children, be prudent, chaste, keepers of their homes, and subject to their husbands. The speaker also touches on the importance of instructing children in traditional gender roles, despite the current flux and change in human sexuality. The speaker observes a woman and her daughter in a store and notes how the girl's gender was difficult to discern from her clothing.

The speaker expresses concern about the confusion and questioning of human sexuality in today's society. He believes that it is important for parents and the church to teach children to be male or female and to embrace their biological gender. He also emphasizes the importance of teaching young girls to be feminine and prepare for marriage. The speaker encourages men to be leaders in the home, but also to serve their wives as Christ served the church. He emphasizes the importance of setting an example and preaching healthy, blameless words. The speaker calls for a return to biblical values and for the church to disciple and mentor young people.

We should be thankful for the word of the Lord even if it disturbs us because we come to be disturbed. We should strive to have the character of a people treated by the Holy Spirit. Let us ask God to help us live out this word every day for His glory. Amen.

I invite you to go to the epistle of Titus, to Pastor Titus of the Apostle Paul. It is a very nutritious and very solid epistle. It has a very special teaching and it was written to a pastor by the Apostle Paul, a church that he had helped found and Tito had been assigned to that community to pastor it.

It was almost like putting up a construction site practically, and it was a bit of a tough community, that area seems to have been known as a bit of a trouble area and actually had a bad reputation. And Pablo felt the need to talk to Tito about how he should deal with this slightly troubled community. And it is important to know that in light of what he is advising Tito to preach, to speak, to teach, how he should behave, because he is doing it in the context of a difficult community, a troubled community, a community of one slightly prickly character. And for example, if you go before you start chapter 2, verse 1, in verse 12 Paul talks about this community, he says:
