The Lord is able to stop all the enemies of His people
Charles SpurgeonSennacherib could not even harass the city. He had bragged audibly, but was unable to carry out his threats. The Lord is able to stop the enemies of His people on the spot. When the lion has the lamb between his jaws, the great Shepherd of the sheep can snatch his prey. Our extreme rush only provides an opportunity for a greater display of divine power and wisdom.
In the case before us, the fearsome enemy did not even appear in front of the city that he was thirsty to destroy. No destructive arrows could be thrown over their walls, no siege engines could be placed to bring down their castles, nor could they build ramparts from which they could shoot their inhabitants. Perhaps in our case the Lord will also prevent our adversaries from doing us the least harm. Certainly He can alter your intentions, or make your designs so fruitless that you willingly abandon them. Let us trust the Lord and keep His way, and He will take care of us. Yes, He will fill us with astonished praise when we see the perfection of His deliverance.
We must not fear the enemy until he really comes and then we must trust the Lord.
