Heavenly wisdom
Charles Spurgeon"If any of you lack wisdom." There is no "yes" in this matter, as I am sure I have a lack of wisdom. What do I know? How could I guide my own way? How can I lead others? Lord, I am a mass of folly and I have no wisdom.
You say: "Ask God for it." Lord, I am asking you now. Here, on your footstool, I ask for heavenly wisdom to face the perplexities of this day, alas, and also for the simplicities of this day; for I know that I can do very stupid things, even in simple matters, unless You separate me from evil.
I thank you that all I have to do is ask. What grace is this from You, that I only have to pray with faith, and You will give me wisdom! You promise me here a liberal education, and that, too, without an angry tutor, or a reproving teacher. This, likewise, You will grant it without charging a fee; you will bestow it on a fool who lacks wisdom. Oh Lord, I thank you for that positive and expressive word: "And it will be given to him." I think so. You will make, on this day, Your baby know the hidden wisdom that those who are carnally prudent never learn. You will guide me with Your advice, and then You will receive me in glory.
