Preparing to receive God - our joy, our delight

Sam Schutz
(Audio: Spanish, English) ->Original

SUMMARY: The sermon is about preparing to receive God our joy and delight during the Christmas season by meditating on Psalm 43:3-4. The psalmist cries out to God for His light and truth to guide him, acknowledging his dependence on God. The speaker urges us to do the same and to pray for our nation and ourselves. The speaker reflects on the moral and spiritual decline of our society and the need for the Church to live authentic lives and wage spiritual warfare against the powers of darkness. The psalmist provides a clear map to enter the Presence of God and receive forgiveness and healing. The first step is to accept God's invitation to ascend to His Holy Mountain, confessing our sins and asking for forgiveness. The second step is to offer a living sacrifice, giving ourselves to God. The third step is to enter into the Presence of God and receive joy and delight. The speaker encourages us to pray and invite Jesus Christ to be our guide and lead us to God's Holy Mountain.

The third part of the text reminds us that when we enter the Presence of God and offer ourselves as a living sacrifice, we have direct access to God. Let's declare this Word and prepare our hearts for Christmas, when we encounter the Christ who is God himself.

In our sermon this morning we are going to briefly meditate on one of the scriptures that make up that time of advent to help us prepare for Christmas. It is found in Psalm 43 verses 3 and 4: "Send Your light and Your Truth, they will guide me. They will lead me to Your Holy Mountain and to the place where You dwell, then I will come to the altar of God my joy and my delight." This sermon could be titled "Preparing to Receive God Our Joy, Our Delight."

Brothers and sisters these verses constitute a gold mine, let's go in and start digging to find that gold from that mine. We are going to find one gold nugget after another after this sentence. First let us pray: Lord bless Your Holy Word, our hearts and lives. In the mighty name of Your resurrection we pray, amen.
