Obedience brings blessing

SUMMARY: Obedience brings blessings to all the provisions we receive through diligence. Even if we have very little, the blessing of the Lord is promised. However, if we have a reserve, we need the Lord's blessing even more, as the cares of obtaining, keeping, administering, and using our goods can consume us. We should use our worldly possessions for God's glory and not let them endanger our salvation.

Obedience brings a blessing over all the provisions our diligence provides us. That which comes in and goes out immediately, like the fruit in the basket that is for immediate use, will be blessed; and that which remains with us for a longer season will still receive a blessing. Maybe ours is a portion equivalent to a hand basket. We have very little for breakfast, and a scant bite for food, in our basket when we go to work in the morning. This is fine, for the blessing of the Lord is promised for that basket. If we do not have provisions and we only have what we carry from hand to mouth, receiving every day the provision of the day, we are as well as Israel; for when the Lord supported His chosen people, He provided only manna for the day. What else did they need? What else do we need?

But if we have a reserve, how much more do we need the Lord to bless it! For there is the care to obtain it, the care to keep it, the care to administer it, the care to use it; and unless the Lord blesses her, these cares will eat away at our hearts, until our goods become our gods, and our cares are manifested in gangrenous sores.

Oh Lord, bless our goods. Enable us to use them for Your glory. Help us to keep worldly things in their proper place, and that our savings do not endanger the salvation of our souls.
