It is worth living wisely
Charles SpurgeonHere's something that should wake me up. This is worth living for. Being understood is something noble in itself: in this place it refers to a divine understanding that only the Lord Himself can bestow. Oh, to know myself, and my God and my Savior! May he be divinely taught in such a way that he can put heavenly truth into practice and live in light of it! Do I live a wise life? Am I looking for what to look for? Do I live as I would have liked to live at the time of my death? Only such wisdom can guarantee me an eternal radiance like those sunlit skies.
Being a soul winner is a glorious achievement. I need to be wise if I have to bring someone to justice; much more still if I have to carry many. Oh, I must have the knowledge of God, of men, of the Word and of Christ, which will enable me to convert my fellow men, and convert a great number of them! I want to give myself to this, and never rest until I have achieved it. This will be better than earning stars in court. This will make me a star, a shining star, a star that shines forever and ever; yes, more than that, it will make me shine like many stars. My soul, wake up! Lord, give me life!
