How do you eat an elephant? One bite at a time!
Dr. Roberto MirandaOver time and with experience, I have learned that if you were overwhelmed by the magnitude or complexity of a vision, you would never undertake it. As long as a personal vision is held in the mind like a shapeless mass, without being divided into its component parts, it seems impossible to undertake. It has to be done one piece at a time, one day at a time. It must be poured out on paper, tamed action by action, component by component, until it becomes something feasible, familiar, reduced to the scale of human initiative.
A vision has to become a project. A project has to be poured into a design. A design has to be divided into the multiple sections that compose it. Those sections, in turn, have to be executed one by one in the terrain of time and space. Those executions, together, kept in harmony by fidelity to the original vision, will ultimately turn into an admirable victory, one more achievement that, upon completion, will have enriched our lives, strengthened our inner selves, and illuminated the world around us.
Someone asked, "How do you eat an elephant?" To which a very wise person replied, "One bite at a time!" Never be overwhelmed by the magnitude of a task. Don't be put off by how long it may take, or by the insignificance of your current resources. Disassemble it into its constituent parts. Create an action plan for each of these components. Stay hooked on the vision day after day, and go transmitting the dream to the dimension of time and space, like a disciplined little ant building its clod, until you see it rise as a monument to your discipline and persistence. You will be amazed at how the world and circumstances gradually align with your vision, respectfully stepping aside to make way for you and still to support you.
