He chose us from eternity, and will love us throughout eternity
Charles SpurgeonHe could discard for a time, but not forever. A woman might do without her ornaments for a few days, but she will not forget them, nor will she throw them on the dunghill. The Lord does not usually reject those whom he loves: for 'as he had loved his own who were in the world, he loved them to the end.' Some speak of being in grace or out of grace, as if we were rabbits entering and leaving their burrows: but, in truth, it is not so. The love of the Lord is a more serious and permanent matter than that.
He chose us from eternity, and he will love us throughout eternity. He loved us in such a way as to die for us, and therefore we can be sure that His love will never die. His honor is so involved in the salvation of the believer, that He cannot discard it any more than he could discard His own garments corresponding to His office as King of glory. Nerd! The Lord Jesus, as Head, never rejects His members; as Husband, He never rejects His wife.
Did you think you were discarded? Why did they think so badly of the Lord that He has married them to Him? Discard such thoughts, and never allow them to lodge in your soul again. "God has not rejected his people, whom he knew before." (Romans 11: 2) "He hates putting away." (Malachi 2:16).
