New song
Nancy G. MarquezThe Bible exhorts us to sing a new song to the Lord. God is continually working wonders in our lives. He is powerful and He is working for us, always. This is reason enough to sing a new song to him; one that comes from the heart. What do we understand by a new song? Do I have to learn a song every day to sing it to God? Not necessarily. By new song we understand that it must be refreshed with the presence of God daily.
It does not refer to a hackneyed song, learned by routine, sung without encouragement, but should be a refreshing new song that comes from the heart, sung with spiritual passion and directed, of course, to God, our Heavenly Father. The reason for this song to have these characteristics is mentioned in verse 1 itself: "because God has done wonders." We do not need other reasons to sing to the Lord, because this is a sufficient reason for our mouth not to stop praising him. Characters from the biblical story always sang when they saw the wonders of God. Isaiah for example (Is. 25: 1) “Lord, you are my God; I will exalt you, I will praise your name, because you have done wonders; your ancient advice is true and firm ”.
The question that concerns us is: Can I sing to the Lord today for the wonders He has done in my life? For sure, the answer to this question is a yes, yes. The mere fact of being breathing, seeing, walking, having family, friends, and above all, salvation by grace, are enough reasons to sing a new, refreshing and passionate song to God.
