The bold heart of a woman in need
Dr. Roberto MirandaWhen the woman with the issue of blood heard about Jesus she said, "This is my chance." After years of suffering and loneliness, she was willing to take any risk to find a solution to her desperate need. And then she stepped into the crowd. He had heard that the Lord was passing through his city, he schemed to see how he could touch it, and he stepped into the crowd. I imagine he made his way aggressively. He got between men and women. She got to where he was. Hostile glances perhaps for her wherever she passed. But she said, "If I just touch the hem of his robe, I will be healed."
And this is interesting: It has occurred to me that perhaps if this woman had studied theology or had gone to some seminary she would not have dared to do what she did. Perhaps he had been too aware of the oddity of his effort to seek healing without asking directly for it from the one who could give it, or of the superstitious appearance of his action.
Sometimes ignorance is good and necessary. Sometimes you need those daring and rapturous people to jump in without much thought, and do what they have to do. The Lord honors the daring person. They may not have all their theology perfectly aligned, but there is a passionate heart in them, and God has mercy on them. Because this woman did not ask Jesus for permission to obtain her healing from him. He made a determination: "I am going to extract the healing energy from this mysterious being as much as I can and I am going to obtain my healing."
She was actually thinking in terms of magic perhaps. Perhaps you thought: this man has power; If I touch His clothes, the power will come out of Him. She was not thinking: I am going to ask His permission, I am going to present my case, I am going to ask Him to heal me like everyone else did. She approached from behind without saying anything to the Lord and said: this man has so much strength that if I put my hand inside Him and touch Him He will communicate power to me and what I need to happen will happen. How wonderful is the Lord!
The Lord is like a reservoir of strength and power. Wherever He walks, all the power of the Kingdom of God goes with Him. And there is healing, there is comfort, there is the response to the needs of humanity. This woman touched Jesus and received the answer to her need. God healed his life. The Lord Jesus Christ touched her and what the doctors could not do the Lord did.
