Try It, and You'll Want More

Summary: Jesus Christ is the quickest solution to pain, but we cannot judge Him without knowing Him, just as we cannot claim that we dislike a tea without tasting it. We often reject the unknown out of fear and prefer to hold on to familiar routines; nevertheless, an encounter with Him transforms our lives. When His Word is shared with us, let us accept the living water and the bread of life He offers. Let us not fear what God may ask of us: He knows our limitations and trains us to overcome every trial. If we walk hand in hand with Him, He lightens our burden and leads us to the long-awaited destination.
One day at work, I was talking with a coworker while drinking a delicious black tea. I was wearing my doctor’s coat, on the back of which, in large letters, it says, "Ask me about the quickest solution to pain."
He asked me, “What is the quickest solution to pain?”
“Jesus Christ,” I answered without thinking.
“I don’t believe in Jesus Christ,” he told me. “Besides, what does one thing have to do with the other?”
“Would you like some tea?” I asked.
“I don’t like it,” he replied.
“But have you tried it?” I insisted.
“No, I haven’t tried it.”
“Then how can you say you don’t like it?”
He remained silent.
“You see,” I told him, “the same thing happens with Jesus Christ. How can you say that you don’t believe in Him if you don’t know Him? If you haven’t tried something, you cannot say whether it is good or bad. I am sure that the day you do try it, you will want more.”
It is always like this: people reject what they do not know because they are afraid of the unknown. They would rather continue leading a monotonous, routine life than have to change the patterns by which they have always lived and which have worked for them. They have not tried anything better, but if one day they have an encounter with Him, they will surely never be the same again. Simply reading His story changes your life; how much more will having Him live within you change it?
When someone speaks to you about Him and gives you a taste of His nourishing Word, do not reject it. Taste the living water He gives you and savor the bread of life that is His body. Accept the gift; do not say, “Not me,” because you do not know what God has prepared for you. And do not be afraid: He will not ask you for something you cannot give. He knows your limitations and only wants to train you so that you may come through every trial successfully.
He lightens your burden to the point that you will feel as though you were levitating, because no matter what your path may be like, if you walk hand in hand with Him, you will reach the longed-for destination.
