Proclaiming the Wonders of God

Recently, while talking with a friend I had not spoken with in years, I was reminded of the many miracles of healing God has performed among my loved ones.

I delight in testifying to them, to exalt the wonders of my God and so that his name may be glorified forever.

As we talked, she asked about my relatives who had been ill. As she asked about each one individually, I answered her: she asked about my son, who had two operations as a child—and she thought he would suffer from that condition all his life. I told her that my God did a beautiful work in him, and he has never had any further problem with it. She asked about my sister, who had been given only a few years to live. I told her that my God performed an extraordinarily powerful miracle and healed her completely. She also asked about my elderly grandmother, whom she thought had already passed away because of her age and her health: she had cancer (God healed her), and a stroke (God cured her)—great and merciful is my God. Greater than the heavens is his mercy (Psalm 108:4). As we talked, my heart filled with profound joy, and my whole being worshiped the Lord.

All of us, in one way or another, have experienced God’s mercy and great love in our lives. Let us reflect on this for a moment... let us bring to mind those miracles (great and small) that the Lord has performed among us. Let us encourage one another to testify. Let us tell the world how great our God is, and how great his mercy is. Let us imitate those of old in this. They fervently recounted the wonders God performed in their lives, passing their stories from generation to generation, always glorifying God’s name with their testimonies. Moses did so, recording in the Pentateuch the great things God did for his people. Rather than remaining silent, he proclaimed in his writings how God led them to the promised land, making known to them his power and his great love for them. Christ charged his disciples to proclaim the message throughout the world, testifying to and announcing the wonders of God (Mark 16:15). He also commanded a man whom he had freed from an unclean spirit (Mark 5:19) to go and tell his own people what had happened to him.

All of us, as his disciples, must do the same. Let us delight in proclaiming the great things God has done whenever we have the opportunity. Let us be strong and courageous (Joshua 1:6). Let us testify to all the things he does among us. Let us proclaim his wonders and his great love, so that the whole world may know how real Jehovah God, our God, is.

I will praise you, O Jehovah, with all my heart; I will tell of all your wonders. (Psalm 9:1)
