Now You Have a Passport from the Kingdom of God

Our life is no longer under the power of Satan; rather, God has transferred us from the kingdom of darkness into the Kingdom of His beloved Son, Jesus Christ.

We have to understand that. If you are a son of God, if you are a daughter of God, the One who has the first word—and, I would say, the last word and the word in the midst of your life—is God, Jesus Christ, not Satan. Many times, we Christians are in Christ, yet it is as though we give Satan so much power and so much credit for everything that happens in our lives. We are always talking about how the devil did this, how the devil is attacking me; we are always rebuking, and it is as though we are living life in terms of Satan instead of in terms of God. And so, every time something happens in our lives, we blame it on the devil instead of considering that perhaps God is doing something different.

Even trials and difficulties are often not being brought about by the devil; perhaps God is allowing them or using them for a benevolent purpose. The Bible says, “All things work together for good for those who love God.” That is what we have to understand: when we are in Christ Jesus, everything happening now is under the administration of a Heavenly Father who is directing all the circumstances, all the events in our lives, toward blessing and joy and abundance—that abundant life He has for us.

It is not the devil, who only wants to steal, kill, and destroy in our lives, who is in control of the circumstances and the different aspects of our lives. Rather, it is Christ Jesus, who has now wrested authority away from the devil and taken control of our lives. That is why Paul says, “He has delivered us from the dominion”—that is, from the power and rule—“of darkness,” and says that “He has transferred us into the Kingdom of His beloved Son.” What a wonderful expression.

How interesting this idea is that God has now transferred us into the realm of Jesus Christ. That is also a very interesting idea, and it is telling us that when we enter into a personal relationship with the Son of God, our legal seat—the city, nation, or government to which we belong, where, we might say, our records are kept, along with the legal matters pertaining to our lives, the file containing the details of our lives—is no longer in the seat of the government of hell, but in the seat of the government of God and of the Kingdom of God.

It is as though our birth certificate, our marriage certificate, our passport, our driver’s license, our rights as parents, and all these things that make up our identity no longer reside, so to speak, in the files of the demonic government. Instead, when we need to obtain our documents and process the matters of our lives, we must go to the Kingdom of God.

An idea occurs to me to illustrate this. When Joseph and Mary had to go for the census mentioned at the very beginning of the Gospel, when Christ is born, it says that they had to go to the very place of their birth. That is why Joseph and Mary went to Bethlehem, where Joseph was originally from and where David was from; they belonged to the tribe of Judah. So they went to their birthplace, the place their ancestors came from.

You know, now, when we have to deal with some legal or governmental matter in our lives, we have to go to the place of our spiritual birth: Christ Jesus. That is where we find our identity. We have been transferred into the Kingdom of Jesus Christ. Your identity is not where Satan is, where the power of darkness is; your identity resides in the Kingdom of God.

Never acknowledge the devil’s power in your life; always confess the power of God, because that is where your identity resides. The One who governs every aspect of your life is the Heavenly Father through Christ Jesus. Therefore, since your heavenly record is legally and spiritually located in the Kingdom of God, that is where you must seek your blessing, that is where you must seek your defense, and that is where you must seek instructions for every day of your life—for how you live your life—in the Kingdom of God.

God has transferred you from the kingdom of darkness to the Power of God. Satan wants to destroy your life; he rules over you in order to harm your life. God rules over you in order to do you good. Thus, everything that happens in your life takes place within that new spiritual realm called the Kingdom of God. I think this is a great reason for you to rejoice and for all of us to have great hope in our new identity as children of God.
