Summary: Let us acknowledge that we are not equipped to control even our own lives. God governs all creation, including our feelings and circumstances; trying to take his place only brings us frustration. His sovereignty does not cancel human freedom: our decisions have consequences, and although he is merciful, he hates sin. Nor does it mean that he acts arbitrarily to harm us. God wants what is best for his children and works all things for the good of those who love him. So we can let go of fear, trust his will, and serve in his Kingdom as stewards of his grace, sustained by his promise to be with us.
Let us admit that we are not fit to be in control. Not even of ourselves. The Christian who believes they are in control of things will never stop suffering frustrations. God is irreplaceable, and no one will do things better than He planned to do them beforehand.
...because He is sovereign, and His unlimited sovereignty, which encompasses control over all creation, includes you, your feelings, your emotions, your entire life. Playing God is an attempt to usurp His sovereignty.
Humanism says that God’s sovereignty has gaps because He allows wars, natural disasters, and the ruin of man, who brings about his own destruction. That is false, because the Creator’s sovereignty does not produce inconsistent and arbitrary acts to harm His creation, but acts to bless it. God’s sovereignty has nothing to do with the free will He allowed man, but with His majesty and eternal power. Man does what he wants, and the actions he takes in his life will have consequences, good or bad. It is that simple. “There is a way that seems right to a man, but in the end it leads to death” (Pr 14:12 NIV). He is good and merciful, but let us not forget that He hates sin.
He does what He wants because He is God; He is in control, He commands, but… do not misunderstand! He wants what is best for His children! If you love God and trust in His will and power, free yourself from all fear and hear this blessing: “… we know that God works all things for the good of those who love Him, who have been called according to His purpose” (Ro 8:28 NIV).
There are also promises in God’s sovereignty: “He who did not spare even His own Son, but gave Him up for us all, how will He not also, along with Him, generously give us all things?” (Ro 8:32).
You have a choice. The sovereign King offers you work in His Kingdom, appointed you a steward of His grace (1 Peter 4:10), and promised to be with you until the end of the world.
