Summary: God does not choose the qualified; He qualifies those He chooses. That is why we can trust Him even when a task seems difficult. His power was revealed when He created the universe, delivered His people, sustained them in the wilderness, protected those who faced lions and fire, and performed miracles through Jesus. I am convinced that God is by my side and lives in me. I owe Him my life, my family, my work, and all that I am. He knows my needs, forgives my sins, and gives me the assurance of salvation and eternal life.

During rehearsal for the Christmas play, a very worried brother suggested bringing in a friend who was a professional in the field to help us. I put my hand on his shoulder and said, “My brother, don’t worry. Remember that God does not choose the qualified; He qualifies those He chooses. Where God is, everything turns out well.”

And the truth is, I am convinced of many things:

  • I am convinced that my God created this entire universe that is now our home and that we enjoy, even though many thoughtlessly destroy it.

  • He used a simple man who stuttered to free a people from slavery; no army was needed.

  • My God parted the sea so that His people would not be massacred, as seemed inevitable.

  • He sent food from heaven for a hungry multitude, became a cloud to keep the sun from scorching them and fire to guide and warm them at night. He brought water out of rocks to quench their thirst.

  • Incredibly, He allowed a man to be shut in with lions and come out unharmed. Others were put through fire without being burned.

  • He made time go backward according to His will.

  • He became incarnate as a human being, walked on water, multiplied a meager meal and turned it into a banquet, and healed the sick without medicine. He raised the dead, defying every law of nature. He gave His life as a sacrifice and ransom for many and took it up again.

But if there is one thing I am utterly convinced of, it is that He is beside me at this very moment. Yet I will go further: I am completely convinced that He lives in me, that everything I am, I am because of Him, and that I would never have existed if His hand had not formed me in my mother’s womb.

I owe Him everything I have, from my breath, my heartbeat, and my thoughts to my family and my work. None of it would exist without Him, for my life is for Him and belongs to Him.

He knows everything I need before I know it myself, and I know a lifetime would not be enough to recount His wonders. I am sure that He is the strength that moves me. He forgives all my sins; through Him I am saved and assured of eternal life.

Could anything be more astonishing than my God?
