Lou Engle is a man whom God is using to raise up the spirit of intercession in this nation. He has a vision from God to raise up houses of prayer, as he is going to tell us, in different parts of this country; to raise up an army of young people, filled with the Holy Spirit, possessed by the spirit of praise, spiritual warfare, fasting, and prayer; and to develop in this nation a powerful movement of God to prepare the way for that final visitation of the Holy Spirit that God has reserved for these last days. Therefore, it is a great joy and a great privilege for us to have him here this afternoon.

Let us give Brother Lou Engle a warm welcome this afternoon.

I shared in the last service—the first service—that I walked into this place and absolutely felt the presence of the Lord, and I whispered to my friend Brian and said, “I would come here even if I did not understand anything they were saying, just to be in the presence of the Lord.” Glory to God. Thank you for receiving us.

These are my friends who have been fueling a house of prayer over in Washington, D.C. Let us give them a round of applause, brothers and sisters.

For 16 months, we have had young people from all over America in a house of prayer located one block from the United States Supreme Court building. And the Lord gave us a dream that we would lead an army of young people up the steps of the Supreme Court for a battle over the judges of this nation of America. And God issued us a challenge: Is prayer more powerful than the Supreme Court? And I say: Definitely, yes.

And in the 16 months that we have been praying, two Supreme Court justices have been removed and two others have replaced them. And people ask me, “Well, how do you know it is because you prayed?” Well, for one thing, I would not be doing what I am doing if I did not believe that I am going to see the answers on the front pages of this nation’s newspapers.

I believe prayer is the most powerful force in the universe. Hallelujah! And I believe that we are standing on the shoulders of people who have been praying for 33 years for abortion to end in this nation. And I believe that God has now sent us for such a time as this to see that spirit of abortion broken. Can you believe with me that abortion is going to end here in America?

I am going to tell some stories today. Brian told me, “Hey, preach the Bible,” but I am a terrible Bible teacher. I would much rather tell stories, so do not all get alarmed there by what I am going to do. The Bible will permeate everything I say. So, is that all right with you? Amen.

I want to give you a book, my brother. This is a book I wrote; its title means “Digging the Wells of Revival.” It is not the greatest book in the world, but it is my offering. In fact, it comes from deep within me. I lived in Pasadena, California, where the Azusa Pentecostal Revival broke out.

How many of you know about the Azusa Pentecostal Revival in the twentieth century, at the beginning of the twentieth century? In 1906, a man named Frank Bartleman, a white Anglo-Saxon man, had been praying and fasting for an entire year. At times he cried out 24 hours a day, eating only what was absolutely necessary to survive. And in another part of town, an African American man named William Seymour was also fasting and praying, and on April 9—exactly one hundred years ago this year—God visited that man’s fasting and prayer, and a great revival broke out throughout the nation.

I read the book called “Azusa Street,” written by Frank Bartleman, and the Spirit of the Lord flooded my heart and stirred my heart, and I began to fast and pray. And one night I prayed, “God, give me the mantle of Frank Bartleman. I want to pray like that man. I want to see revival. I do not merely want to read about revival; I want my children to experience revival.” And for two hours I cried out to the Lord, “Give me the mantle of Frank Bartleman.” That night I fell asleep, and the next morning a man came up to me. He knew nothing about what I had been praying, and he said to me, “I had a dream about you last night, and in that dream I saw a black book, and on the front of the book, on the cover, it said ‘Revival.’ I opened the cover and saw the face of a man, and his name was Frank Bartleman, and his face turned into your face.” And at that moment I knew that it was a Joseph-type dream, and I believe that mantle is falling right now. On this centennial anniversary, if the church rises up at this moment, I believe we are going to see a great revival in America.

Would you stand with me right now? And would you dare to pray with me? We are calling for and declaring 40 days of fasting at the very gates of Harvard University, beginning on Ash Wednesday, March 1: 40 days of fasting and prayer, ending on April 9, which is Palm Sunday and also coincides with the centennial of the Azusa Street Revival. We are declaring this fast for key leaders in the body of Jesus Christ. We are asking for one million people in this nation, right now, to fast and pray for an outpouring of the Holy Spirit. And I am going to move here to Boston for those 40 days because we are seeking to mobilize massive prayer for the universities of North America, with Harvard as the epicenter.

Why not here, where the great revival began two centuries ago? Would you raise your hands with me, and let us pray. God, in the name of Jesus, we begin to pray. Begin to pray. Begin to cry out for revival, an outpouring of all........ Pour out Your grace, Father. Revival, awakening, Lord. Oh Lord, move the Latino people, Father, with the fires of intercession. Raise them up and move them out of apathy, Lord, so they may seize this moment, God.

Oh God, give dreams and visions to the university professors. Oh Lord, move in all the major universities of this nation. Pour out Your Spirit, Lord. God, remember Frank Bartleman and do it again, Lord, in the name of Jesus. Amen. Give the Lord a great shout. Hallelujah!

You may be seated. I tell you this story not to boast; I tell you this story because I believe dreams raise up and stir faith in our hearts. And God is the dreamer of your dreams. He has a dream for your life. Before you were born, He knew you; He formed you in your mother’s womb. Scripture says that He wrote a book about your life before there had even been a first day of your life. God wrote a novel about your life before you were born. He said, “Lou, you are going to be moving around all the time, as you are doing now, and Lou is going to be the dreamer of My dreams,” and God wrote a novel about my life. God has written a novel about your life too. Today you may say, “Well, this novel is pretty boring.” Well, wait until you reach the fourth chapter of that novel. Then things begin to heat up. Hallelujah!

God has a dream for America. He brought you here from the nations because the nation of America reached out to you. I believe God has given us Latinos as a gift to America. I have been prophesying for years that the hot blood of Latinos will bring the fires of revival from the south, which may save this nation. In fact, I myself have a little hot Latino blood in me.

I want to tell you some stories today because I want to place faith in your hearts that God is not finished with America yet. I do not believe that the humanists and the atheists and the ACLU, with its secular lawyers, and Planned Parenthood with abortion, and liberal politicians are going to have the final word in America. They have already had their day, but God is raising up a generation that believes God is still greater than the ideologies of abortion, greater than the strongman of homosexuality, and greater than pornography.

God wants to pour out something that can move the heart of the nations. I have to believe this because God gave me a dream. In 1997, Promise Keepers, a men’s ministry, brought one million men to the National Mall in Washington to pray for this nation.

Joel 2: “When there is no hope for a nation, when there is no remedy, God still has one card to play. Joel, blow the trumpet in Zion. Declare a fast. Gather the elders; gather the children so that they may repent and pray and fast. And afterward, I will pour out My Spirit.”

One week after that declaration in Washington, I took a photograph, held it up, and showed that photograph of those one million men on the National Mall in Washington. I was speaking to 600 young people at that time, and as I spoke to them, the spirit of prophecy fell upon me, and I began to declare that the hearts of the fathers would be turned back to the children, but also that the hearts of the children would be turned back to the fathers.

The Bible promises that in the last days He will raise up His Spirit of Elijah, and it will be so powerful that it will be able to break the curse over a nation.

I had a dream, and in that dream I was overwhelmed by the impossibility of seeing America return to God. But in the dream, Luke 1:17 was imparted to my spirit. Speaking of John the Baptist, it says, “The spirit of Elijah would be upon John the Baptist, and he would turn the hearts of the fathers toward the children, and the disobedient to the wisdom of the righteous.” And I awoke from that dream, and the Lord spoke to me: “What I am pouring out,” He said, “upon America is stronger than rebellion. What I am pouring out upon America is stronger than rebellion.”

When Jezebel dominated Israelite culture, only 7,000 had not bowed the knee to the idol Baal. When Jezebel dominated the culture—with the killing of children, sexual confusion, the silencing of the churches, and the killing of the prophets—we are exactly the same here in the city of Boston. And amid that absence of God stood a man filled with fire named Elijah, and Elijah initiated a spiritual confrontation with that Jezebel spirit. At the end of the revolution, Jezebel’s altar became a latrine. The Bible says so. And they completely overthrew the worship of Baal.

Now, brothers and sisters, New England is currently dominated by a Jezebel culture. It is the witchcraft capital of the world. It is a place where churches cannot even raise their voices and take a firm stand against homosexuality without being vilified, so there is terrible pressure for us to live according to the spirit of the age in peaceful coexistence.

And God wants to come and disrupt that false peace. He wants a voice capable of penetrating the religious system, opening the heavens, and beginning to shake and disturb the status quo. And He is going to do it through the fasting and prayer of the prophet Elijah. Hallelujah!

And I began to speak to those 600 young people, and the spirit of prophecy descended upon me, and I began to declare “that the hearts of the fathers would be turned back to the children, and the children also to the fathers.” And then I prophesied and declared, “A second gathering of young people will come to that National Mall in Washington, and it will be a John-the-Baptist-type generation, a Nazirite generation that fasts and prays over this nation.” And on that occasion I said, “And when they go to that National Mall in Washington, it will be a sign that America is beginning to turn back to God.”

At that time, there was no way I could carry out that kind of vision. But a year and a half after that prophetic declaration, I found myself praying the following prayer: “God, how can I turn the heart of America back to God?” It seemed like a completely outrageous prayer, but I know what you are praying. You are praying, “How can I turn New England back to God? How can I turn Boston back to God?” This prayer is stirring in the heart of this man and this company.

You have to dream God’s outrageous dreams and cause that dream to become a reality on earth as it has already become a reality in heaven. Do I have the right company? It will cost you and this man dearly to take leadership in this city. Jezebel will send her prophets against you, but do not worry, because if the Lord is with us, who can be against us?

I believe there is a movement that we are destined to dominate and overcome, rather than continuing to live under the dominion of the Philistines. A David has to take up his stone and begin to hurl it against the.......... and challenge the spiritual atmosphere with the weapons of righteousness, fasting, and prayer.

I found myself praying this prayer, and at that moment, while I was praying with the young people, a woman came up to me and said, “You do not know who I am, but I read your book about revival, and the Lord spoke to me and told me that He wanted me to pay your salary this year because you are going to start something with the young people of America that will change the destiny of this nation,” she told me. And at that moment I was going crazy because I did not know this woman, and I said to her, “Ma’am, you have to be kidding me,” because she told me that she was going to pay my salary. And of course, I took her money, and this woman has been paying my salary for the past six years, with the dream that the young people of America will rise up and change this nation through prayer and fasting.

And on September 2, people were telling us, “You are not capable of doing that. Promise Keepers may have been able to do it, but who are you?” We told them, “All we have is a dream,” but God mobilized that dream. And on September 2, 400,000 young people gathered on that central plaza in Washington, not for a festival but for a fast. They came there and gathered on that plaza for 12 hours, and they threw themselves down in the mud and wept and cried out.

I believe that George Bush was elected, not by the vote of the people, but by the prayers of the angels, because God wants to put an end to abortion in America. It is now crying out before the throne of God, and it is seeking better blood. And if change does not come, God will have to judge this nation very severely.

The blood of those children cries out from the earth, but there is another blood that cries out, and it cries, “Mercy, mercy, mercy.” Throughout this journey we launched 7 national Calls; that is the name of the gatherings: “The Call.” 85,000 gathered in New York, 50,000 young people in the city of Boston, and 40,000 in San Francisco. Something is stirring in the very bowels of America, and it is not a gathering of young people eating pizza; it is not a young people’s pizza party. These are young people who believe they can actually change history, like Daniel in the Book of Daniel.

As a teenager, Daniel, immersed in fasting and prayer, had a revelation a hundred times better than the psychics of Babylon, giving visions more powerful than those of the sorcerers. God wants young people who can interpret their teachers’ dreams.

When God begins to hunt down and pursue the Nebuchadnezzars of Harvard, God wants to promote His people to the highest levels of leadership. We have to believe in this time.

God sent me on this journey through a dream. I had a dream of a Buddhist house of prayer above a Christian house of prayer, and the Buddhist house of prayer was dominating the Christian house of prayer. But then, in the dream, the Christian house of prayer began to turn things around and began to dominate the Buddhist house of prayer. And the Lord began to speak to me: “Your job description in life is to raise up a house of prayer that contends against every other house—not with weapons of anger, but with a touch, something in a realm... where demons and angels are fighting one another, fighting and battling to gain influence over the culture.”

And I also had a dream about Senator Ted Kennedy, a very liberal man, and I dreamed that he could not get out of my house of prayer because he was being influenced by the atmosphere of that house of prayer. I believe that the prayers of the saints in this city are stronger than those of the politicians. That is what Scripture says.

Whatever you ask—anything you ask in My name—will be given to you. Ask, and it will be given to you. Pray, “Your kingdom come, Your will be done, on earth as it is in heaven.” Keep asking, keep seeking, keep pressing the Lord.

The church has yet to rediscover the infinite power of prayer, because prayer gives God the right to enter the scene, and when God picks a fight with Boston politics, He will always win. And you may say, “Well, that sounds as though you’re boasting and showing off.” No, I feel that God wants to raise up Davids who can fight Goliaths. He is tired of a church dominated by the culture that is silencing the voice of the church, and what God wants is to recover that voice. He will therefore look for a people who are out of balance. You know what? Many times, “balance” is a dirty word. And when God wanted to bring the nation back, He raised up a John the Baptist. John the Baptist was far from being a balanced, normal man; his main food was locusts and honey. And many times he would break his fast, but then many times he would not even eat his main food and would simply continue fasting completely. What do you think—does that sound balanced to you? He would break his fast with his main food of locusts and honey, and it also says that he continued to fast frequently. But he recovered the voice of the church, the voice that the church had lost in New England.

But I believe, brothers and sisters, that there is an army of men and women who are saying, “I want to recover my voice again.” We have young people here who want to say, “I want to have a voice in the culture. I want to write the music that will change my culture; I want to write the books that will change my culture.”

I want to be a voice. I do not want to play for a losing team when we see that Christ is above every rule, every dominion, every power, and every law. And I am not going to wait for the millennium to come before seeing the good things God wants to do. Now, through the church, the manifold wisdom of God will be made known to the principalities and powers.

When God launched us into 50 days of fasting and prayer and showed us that we had to confront the ideology of abortion in prayer, we launched that first house of prayer one block from the Supreme Court in Washington, with young people standing in front of the Supreme Court with a strip of tape over their mouths bearing the word “LIFE.” And that prophetic act came through a dream God gave the young man who is here, in which he saw my son with that tape over his mouth and the word “LIFE” written on it.

And we believe it was divine intelligence. Our young people have taken a stand in front of the Supreme Court and have been there every day for 16 months. They have stood in front of that Supreme Court, not protesting but prophesying life over it, identifying with the silent cries of the unborn.

Ezekiel 22:30: “I sought for a man who would stand in the gap and build a wall before Me, so that I would not destroy and judge the nation.” And through that dream I told the Lord, “I will build You a wall,” and while those young people stand in front of the Supreme Court, they are saying, “Lord, hold back Your wrath against this nation and bring an end to abortion.”

In 16 months, two justices have been removed from their positions on the Supreme Court, and right now I want to do something: national news programs such as ABC’s Nightline saw our arrow-shaped house of prayer, which is formed like the head of an arrow, and that is where those young people continually stand, declaring God’s judgment over the Supreme Court and declaring that the deadly march of abortion will be destroyed here in America. It is a house of prayer contending with the court of death.

I believe I want to show you a video. Nightline came and showed this video. I hope it is working. It is a very favorable—in fact, an extremely favorable—presentation of this prophetic act.

Lord, we thank You. You are good, Lord.

You know what? I believe, brothers and sisters, that God wants to give prayer a divine endorsement. Ted Koppel, who hosts this nationally broadcast program, resigned from Nightline, and the very next show that aired was precisely the one you just saw. Brothers and sisters, I believe God is changing things in the media and in Hollywood. Things are changing if the church prays and moves the windows of heaven.

I am going to give you a couple more stories, and then we will finish. Before we launched into these 50 days and 50 nights, a young woman shared a dream about Las Vegas. She saw a basketball court. God often gives me dreams about basketball courts because I like to play basketball—or at one time I did. Thirty years after I played basketball, last year, when I began going to the Supreme Court, they inducted me into my school’s hall of fame—30 years later—because it is all about the courts; judicial courts and basketball courts are the same word in English.

In this dream, brothers and sisters, she sees a demonic barrier on the court, and all these young people are there weeping. In the dream she says that I appeared there on the court wearing a referee’s shirt. I looked up the word “referee” in the dictionary, and it means a judge—a judge who presides over the courts. And in her dream, a young woman began to shout, “Lou Engle, this is your opportunity now!” And I took those young people by the hands, and we removed that demonic barrier from the court.

And when we arrived in Washington, we stood for 5 hours a day, beginning 31 days before the elections, with that tape saying “LIFE” over our mouths and those plastic bands on our arms. And while we were there in front of the Court, one of our young people said, “Hey, let’s take this tape that says ‘LIFE’ and turn it into plastic wristbands like the ‘Live Strong’ bands. And we could start a Martin Luther King–type movement, like they did in Birmingham 30 or 40 years ago, to put an end to abortion.” And I said, “Lord, it sounds like a good idea, but we do not need one more band in America. You have to confirm it—a wristband... that this wristband is from You.” And the next day, a boy whom we did not know came up to me and said, “You should take that ‘LIFE’ tape and turn it into a LIFE wristband like the ‘Live Strong’ wristband.” And he told me, “If you do, I will return to Birmingham, my hometown, and start a Martin Luther King–type movement to put an end to abortion.” And today more than 180,000 people are wearing that wristband, and every time they see it, they pray for abortion to end.

If I could get a million people to do that 5 times a day, there would be 5 million prayers asking for abortion to end. We have to begin taking control; we have to begin a massive mobilization. And today my friends and I stand and pray our prayer. Go ahead.

Jesus, we ask that Your blood cover my sins and the sins of my nation. God, end abortion and send revival to America. Jesus, we call upon Your blood over my sins and the nation. End abortion and send revival, because all across America people are standing in front of abortion clinics, in the courts, and in the states, and we are besieging the courts of Babel.

I am going to finish this story. When we arrived in Washington, on day number 30, I received a call from a young woman who works in the Supreme Court building. She called me and said, “Would you like to enter the Supreme Court building? I will take you on a tour of it.” So when I met her, she told me her story. Years earlier, in Florida, someone had prophesied to her that one day she would be working in the Supreme Court building and that while she was working there, Roe v. Wade, the ruling that permits abortion, would be overturned. Then she continued, telling me, “Not long ago I had a dream.” She told me that Supreme Court Justice Ginsburg came to her in the dream and asked her to become her assistant. One week after that dream, that same Supreme Court Justice Ginsburg approached this young woman and said, “Would you like to be my assistant?”

I tell you, these stories are designed to create faith in you—not merely faith, but the conviction that we must pray God’s visions into reality. Perhaps you have a dream for your child. Pray your dream again and again and again and again, because it is your word that is reaching heaven.

And I asked that young woman, “Is there a basketball court inside the Supreme Court building?” And she said, “Yes, there actually is, and it is directly above the place where the justices hold their hearings.” And I told her, “Take me to that court.”

On the third floor, in the heavens, in that third court, Esther went before the court there and changed Haman’s decree of death against the Hebrews. And I walked all over that basketball court, declaring, “Today there is a change over the Supreme Court. We declare that abortion is coming to an end in America.”

The fight is still going on. Right now we are praying for the third justice to fall as well. And we are praying day and night, “Lord, change all this.”

God has given me the anointing to launch a house of prayer right next to Harvard University to fight against the ideologies that are creating a culture of death over our universities, against the spirit of antichrist coming from those professors. We are declaring these 40 days of fasting, and from there we are going to launch a house of prayer, as we did in front of the Supreme Court, with the dream that God will change things at Harvard and at all the universities in America.

We can believe that prayer is greater than principalities and powers. I believe that 24-hour-a-day prayer is rising over the earth because God wants to contend with principalities and powers. Believe me, brothers and sisters, Muslims have a culture of prayer, but the church in America only has small prayer meetings. How is a prayer meeting going to prevail against an entire culture of prayer, in which millions, every day, 5 times a day, acknowledge Muhammad as a prophet from Allah? How will we be able to contend against the spiritual power being released by millions of people fasting and praying in the Muslim world?

The West must restore the necessary houses of prayer, and we will prevail over this nation and this culture.

I am here today because I have joined my heart with this man, and we are dreaming a dream that Boston might see its revival, that Harvard might see change, that our children will not have to be mentored by witchcraft; instead, witchcraft will be mentored by the young people of our time.

That is worth living for. Young people, that is worth giving your lives for. Lukewarm offerings will not be enough. It is nothing less than total abandonment to Christ Jesus. He is the King of Kings and Lord of Lords. He is not merely a man to whom we are singing our songs.

He wants to manifest His authority over the deans of universities. He wants to manifest His authority over Ted Kennedy, over George Bush, over Hillary Clinton. He wants to pursue them with dreams and direct their lives through the most powerful force in the universe: prayer and fasting joined together, intercession every night. And I believe Latinos can lead the way. He wants to use the humble to bring down the powerful and the proud. You have the fire of prayer in your ancestors, in your bones; it is there. Recover it and seize the day.

April 9 is the centennial anniversary of the Azusa revival. Oh, if millions would rise up in prayer to cry out for God to move upon our sons and daughters. And we also have a website called JHOBoston.com, and we are looking for young people who will give 3 to 6 months of their lives to sustain a house of prayer 24 hours a day, like the one we have there, with the determination that we will not let go of Harvard until that place begins to be shaken to its foundations.

Can you dream that dream with me today? Can you dream a dream for your families? Can you take up those weapons of fasting and prayer? My brother, you can raise up an army of Latino young people who can lead the march of history. I am convinced of that.

Young people, you were created for relationship. You can raise your hands; let us pray now. Lord, may a special grace, a special gift of fasting and prayer, come upon this people, Lord. Lord, we pray in the name of Jesus that a mantle of faithful leadership would fall upon this house. Why not Latinos to lead the wisdom of professors? Why not the prayers of the humble to destroy the ideology that is destroying our culture?

Lord, we ask for an anointing of leadership right now; raise up young people of prayer in universities and schools, in the name of Jesus. I pray that the prayers of this church would be infused with fire. May there be no room in this place because the movement of prayer is so strong, God. We ask You in the name of Jesus.
