Lou Engle

The prophet Lou Engle is a man of national prominence, a man of God. He is nationally prominent because he is a man of God and because God uses him in prophetic words, in intercession, and in discerning the voice of God for this nation at a key time in its history. And among the many other things for which he has been used by the Lord, he has written books, but he has also called together great multitudes of people at regional and national events to pray for the nation, to intercede for the nation.

Perhaps some of you participated in The Call, which took place in several U.S. cities about three or four years ago and had a tremendous impact on this nation.

And God uses him in many ways. He travels everywhere, releasing God’s blessing and delivering the word that God has placed in his heart, so we welcome him here this morning.

I just want to tell you that I have been traveling around the country ministering for a long time. When Brian and I arrived at this place this morning, I had no idea what anyone was saying in this place, but my spirit clearly felt the presence of the Lord. I was crying the entire time, and I said to myself, “Lord, I promise You that when I get up there, I’m going to tell them how refreshed I feel in this place.” Then my sister came and whispered in my ear, “You haven’t come only to refresh others, but to be refreshed as well.”

Hallelujah! And this worship was off the charts. Who wants preaching after that?

I want us to pray for our president. We have launched a house of prayer in Washington, D.C., one block from the Supreme Court building. And we have prayed there day after day for sixteen months for God to change the direction of this nation. And in those sixteen months, two justices have been removed from their positions, and a third is already on the way out as well. And the report going around Washington is that a third Supreme Court justice is going to resign soon.

I believe that prayer is the most powerful force in the universe. It is more powerful than the nation’s politicians, more powerful than the educated elite. Prayer is the force that governs the universe, and I believe the church is receiving that message.

I recently had a dream in which Senator Kennedy himself did not want to leave our house of prayer because he had been influenced by our prayers, and in the dream he wanted to speak with me. And I believe that prayer is stronger than all the atheistic noise made by all the people, by all the politicians. And it seems overwhelming; we feel so small in light of the spiritual powers, but God says that out of the mouths of babies and children, He has ordained strength to silence the enemy and the avenger. The weak things will confound the wise. The things that are not nullify the things that are. And prayer is the weakest thing we can do, but it compels the most powerful Being in the universe, and when God enters the scene, absolutely everything is finished. Hallelujah!

I want to speak to you today about dreams, because that is how God has guided us on our journey. The Bible says, “In the last days I will pour out My Spirit. The young and the old will dream dreams and see visions.” They are not merely prophetic toys for us to play around with, but are intended to provide destructive weapons against the spiritual powers.

In 1999, a leading prophetic voice throughout America named Bob Jones gave the following word, and this was before George Bush had ever even thought of running for president. He spoke as follows: “A burning bush is going to come out of Texas,” he said, “and in the second half of his second presidency, if the church prays, he will do more than any other president to end abortion, restrain homosexual marriage, and return prayer to the schools.” If the church prays!

And the church has been praying because we have been backed against the wall. God has created a crisis to create prayer, because once He receives prayer, He is released and stirred to divine activity upon the earth. He is waiting for an opportunity, an occasion, to enter the war. The Lord has used 9/11 as an occasion to enter the war.

God detests the dominion of the powers of darkness over His church, and I believe He is seeking to raise up a breath of prayer that will change the history of America. We have been praying for George Bush for five years, that he would be a burning bush and that God would take control of that man so that he would appoint righteous judges who would begin to destroy the power wielded by America’s judges at this time.

In 1996, I had a dream in which I was leading thousands of young people up the steps of a building with huge columns ...... and I was leading them into war against that building. 1996. And I now find myself in the midst of my dreams, of those dreams I had. There we have stood before the Supreme Court, striking again and again and declaring, “Your Kingdom come; Your will be done concerning the judges of America.” Hallelujah!

Would you please stand with me? We want to pray that George Bush, in his second term, will not be an inactive and passive president, but that the fire of God will be upon him so that he may move this nation toward the justice of God. Raise your hand, and let us pray. In the name of Jesus, God, King of the universe and of history, we pray for our president, Lord. Make him a burning bush who will set free those who have not yet been born, who will raise up the Moseses who will say, “Let my people go.” Make him a burning bush. God, may he stand firm and restrain homosexual marriage. Raise up the Senate as well, Lord, so that it will take its stand for justice and restitution. And right now we ask, Lord, for the 2008 elections. Raise up the righteous, Lord, and destroy the unrighteous. God, turn this nation around again; turn it around, Lord. Come to Boston, Lord, the root of the nation. God, give us an awakening unlike anything we have ever seen before. Raise up the voice of Your church. Oh, come out of the caves and begin to contend against Jezebel’s dominion over the earth. Release the spirit of righteousness, Lord. Raise up the voices of the Latinos, Lord, of the intercessors, God, who will remove the powers. We believe, Lord. We believe in Your power, in the name of Jesus. Amen. Give the Lord a great shout. Hallelujah! We worship You, Lord. Thank You, Jesus. We bless You, Lord. You may be seated.

That is what happens when you are with Latinos. It is the hot blood of the Latinos. And that is going to save America. I have been preaching that for years. That cold New England blood needs the hot blood of the Latinos.

Wherever I go, I am always spitting, but it is holy water, holy water.

There is a man named Derek Prince who wrote a book called “Shaping History Through Prayer and Fasting,” and twenty years ago, that book written by Derek Prince became my textbook, my operations manual. The premise of that book is this: “The church that prays and fasts directs the course of history.” This book took possession of my life, so I began to fast. I hate fasting. I like Mexican food, for example. But I have a love-hate relationship with fasting. I hate it because I love food, but I love it because in fasting I find the food of revelation. God becomes real, and things begin to shift and change when I pray and fast.

Once I was fasting, and I told people I was fasting, but I got tired of fasting, so I began to cheat a little. I know that none of you have ever done that. Right? And in fact, I rock back and forth a little; I have been doing it since I was one year old, so there is hope for you too, brothers. Somebody has to move back and forth. So I began to cheat a little on this fast, and I slipped a little yogurt and some potato chips into the fast—a pretty good combination. And the next day I was at the twenty-four-hour house of prayer, and this prophetic intercessor woman came up to me. I am actually afraid of those people, and she said to me, “I had a dream last night, and in that dream you were sitting exactly where you are sitting now.” And I was thinking, Yes, Lord, I know that You know exactly where I live. And she said, “But in the dream I was very disappointed in you because you were supposed to be fasting, but you were eating potato chips and yogurt.” And suddenly I received a fresh anointing to continue fasting.

Do you love the Lord? “I am looking at you; I am watching you,” He says. Anyway, there are no great heroes, but I have done a lot of fasting in my life. It is a play on words: “fasting” is going fast, but it says that it is “stopping.”

So I began this journey of fasting, and we began to see a move of God in Pasadena, California, involving hundreds of thousands of people. There were years of prayer and fasting, and on that journey I reached a point at which the Lord began to stir me concerning the fact that prayer and fasting can change the destiny of this nation.

At the Promise Keepers march, one million men were there to pray for this nation. And one week later, I held USA Today magazine in my hands in front of six hundred young people, and the spirit of prophecy fell upon me, and I began to declare, “The hearts of the fathers have turned toward the children, and the hearts of the children are going to turn toward the fathers; and a corresponding movement of young people is coming to Washington, D.C., and there will be a John the Baptist—a radical Nazirite or John-the-Baptist type—praying and fasting continually. And when that group of desperate people goes to the National Mall in Washington, it will be a sign that America is turning back to God.”

At that prophetic moment, there was no way I could carry out something of that magnitude, but we nevertheless began to gather and unite young people to fast and pray for a massive revival among young people throughout America. And a year and a half after that prophecy, in January 1999, while I was praying and fasting, the fire of the Lord began to burn within me, and I began to pray the following prayer:

“How can I, Lord, turn America around and bring it back to God?” It seemed like a wild, impossible prayer. But we need to pray prayers that go far beyond our abilities. I was laboring and crying out with that prayer, and at that instant a woman I had never met came up to me and said the following: “I read your book about revival. You do not know who I am, but the Lord told me that this year I am to pay your salary because you are going to begin something involving young people and prayer in America that will change the nation.” And I found myself looking at this woman and thinking, Who are you, woman? But I took her money anyway.

And for six years this woman has been paying my salary. And for three months I did not know what to do, until one week before the tragedy at Columbine, where some young people killed many of their schoolmates, she came up to me and said, “Have you ever thought about putting young people on that immense plaza in Washington, just as Promise Keepers, this men’s organization, put the men there—putting young people there as well, in that place, to make a public demonstration?” And I said to her, “Ma’am, two years ago I prophesied exactly that.” And she said, “I am going to give you one hundred thousand dollars to begin this youth movement,” which began a supernatural move of God that led four hundred thousand young people to gather on the Mall, there at that place of public demonstration in Washington, D.C.—not to listen to rock music, not to listen to people make declarations or give speeches, because we already have too many speakers and preachers; we have to bring God back onto the earth. And they came from all over America to fast and pray. We have spent far too long teaching our young people to celebrate and party, but the times call instead for fasting and prayer. And the young people of America are beginning to catch the vision and do this.

Soon after that, a group of young people came to Yuma, Arizona, and fasted for forty days, and on the thirty-ninth night the Spirit of God fell upon them. And when those young people returned to their homes, as soon as they arrived, their parents began to cry and surrender their......... .

The next day, a shy young girl who had been part of that outpouring stood on a table in her school cafeteria and began to preach the Gospel. And the school principal grabbed her, took her to his office, and told her, “You cannot do that here.” And she said, “I must obey God rather than men,” not knowing that when they pulled her down and took her to the principal’s office, another young person took her place on the table and likewise began to prophesy. And in eleven days, fifty young students gave their lives to Jesus Christ. Today there is a gigantic church in Yuma, Arizona, that arose from those prayers and fasts.

I am telling you, that is what our forefathers did: they prayed and fasted. And that is also how revivals in Latin America began, and this is going to take place in Boston now as well.

And I could tell you story after story, but I do not have time. Immediately after that, God gave me another dream and showed me that there were other gathering places where we needed to have these manifestations. And in that dream the Lord spoke to me and said, ‘There is no one taking aim at the false ideologies and attacking them with prayer and fasting,’ and in my dream I could see the false ideologies of Boston being removed through fasting and prayer. I could see humanism at Harvard being removed, and that is why we declared The Call, a great gathering that took place here in Boston.

I was mobilizing young people to come to Boston in 2001. You will remember that the great gathering held in Boston took place 11 days after the towers were brought down on September 11. Many people from New England called us and told us, ‘We cannot go. It is not safe,’ and that upset me tremendously. Why can Muslims die better than we Christians can for our Christian faith? We can die better than the Muslims. We are living to preserve ourselves instead of living to bring the Kingdom of God. We cannot live for self-preservation.

Esther was brought forth at a moment in history when she had to choose whether she would live for self-preservation or say, ‘If I die, let me die,’ ‘If I perish, let me perish.’ And right now I have young people there in the heart of Washington, D.C., who are telling me, ‘We will not leave this house of prayer until that hateful decree of abortion is ended, and if we perish, let us perish.’ Hallelujah!

While I was mobilizing to come to Boston, I told some young people in California, ‘We need to begin digging the wells again at Harvard University and close the gates of the false ideologies in Boston’ (he declared this in California some time ago). Surprisingly, astonishingly, one week after this I received a telephone call from a U.S. senator from the state of Kansas, Senator Sam Brownbag, a man of God. And this man calls me and says, ‘Lou, I am in England. You need to dig the wells of revival at Harvard and close the gates of the false ideologies that are affecting the city of Boston.’ Almost word for word. A senator was prophesying to me. Glory to the Lord.

In fact, it had previously been prophesied about me that I would be connected with a senator from Kansas named Sam Brownback; I had been given a specific prophecy. And I had forgotten that prophecy, so when I rented a condo in Washington, D.C., to mobilize for The Call—this call—a week later I received a telephone call from the owner of the condominium I was renting, and he told me, ‘There is a senator named Sam Brownbag. His condominium has just burned down completely, and he wants to know whether he can stay in the condominium where you are.’ And for 7 months I became the roommate of one of the most powerful senators, Senator Sam Brownbag. We began receiving dreams that he would one day become president of the United States, and right now, who knows? We are praying. Amen.

I believe that when you pray, supernatural things begin to happen; divine promotions begin to take place. You become the head instead of the tail. Your boss, named Nebuchadnezzar, begins to be pursued by dreams, and you interpret the dreams and become the head of your business.

I believe that the deans of Harvard University can be pursued by dreams from heaven if the church begins to lay siege to the powers at Harvard University in order to remove and destroy those false ideologies.

In 2001 I was traveling with Dutch Sheets, our prophet. How many of you know Dutch Sheets or his ministry? He is a powerful man of prayer throughout the nation. We were at Harvard and began to pray, and that night he told me, ‘Lou, we still have not fully reached the point of finishing our prayers for Harvard. We need to launch a nighttime attack to intercede for Harvard.’ So I told him, ‘Go ahead.’ We therefore left the place where we were and went to Harvard, but we got lost on the way because Harvard is scattered all over the place. Harvard is here; it is there. So we did not know where to go; we did not know whether we were on the campus or where we were. And finally we said, ‘Well, let’s park,’ and we turned onto a dark street, parked there and said, ‘Well, let’s pray right here where we are.’ So we got out of the car and saw a large entrance, a very large gate leading into a very dark courtyard, and in the dim light we could barely see the buildings surrounding that courtyard. So we entered that very dark courtyard, and we did not know what to do. Then Dutch, my companion, went over to one of the buildings and suddenly exclaimed, ‘Lou, this is the specific place where we have to pray. This is the very building I wrote about in one of my books, a book called The River of God. It is the philosophy building at Harvard University, and embedded right into the front of that building were the words of Psalm 8: “What is man that You are mindful of him?”’

Then he began telling me the story of that building, about which he wrote in his book: how the president of Harvard at the time had asked the dean of the university’s philosophy department what that dean wanted inscribed on the new philosophy building that was about to be inaugurated... and the dean of the philosophy department said, ‘I would like to inscribe on that building, “Man is the sum of all things.”’ And that was like the ultimate declaration of humanism and the glorification of man. But instead, the president of the university put up scaffolding and enclosed it so that no one could see what was being written on the building, and in secret a godly, God-fearing man had the words ‘What is man that You are mindful of him?’ inscribed on the building.

What do you think the chances were that, lost in the middle of the night, we would arrive at the exact building he had written about in his book years earlier? I am telling you, this was no ordinary event. The Lord says, ‘This is the specific place where I will take my battle position, and I will send my David’s stone from Psalm 8 against the Goliaths of humanistic ideologies. I will make this my place of warfare.’ And the Lord spoke to me at that moment: ‘No one is taking aim to attack the false ideologies with fasting and prayer.’

I have a dream in my soul today that the humanistic philosophies of the universities will be destroyed and torn down by our houses of prayer. Those young people in Washington, D.C., have a house of prayer shaped like the point of a spear, and it is aimed directly at the Supreme Court building. Sometimes, 24 hours a day, they are swinging that sling, hurling that stone of the Word of God against Roe v. Wade and abortion. We annul your covenant with death, and we are hurling that stone again and again.

What would happen if a house of prayer were raised up at the very gates of Harvard, with young patriots from all over New England? What if young men and women between the ages of 18 and 30 dedicated 6 months to a year of their lives to sustaining a house of prayer, so that, like David’s sling, it could be fired against those false ideologies until the demonic powers were brought down?

When God begins to remove professors or begins to convert them, when young Daniels begin to be raised up instead of submitting to their demonized mentors, why not Daniels who have revelation and can disciple their professors? Why must we be dominated by Philistine culture? God wants to wage war, not with anger, but with words of wisdom from heaven that penetrate the darkness.

When we launched our house of prayer in Washington, this young man here, Brian Kim, had been fasting from meat and sweets for two years; he did not eat meat or sweets. It was a Daniel fast—two years of praying for abortion to be brought down in America. And when George Bush was elected, a pro-life president—and I am not saying that he is a great president—but what I am saying is that we cannot have 8 more years of bloodshed in America. Do you understand what I am telling you?

And immediately after the election, he told the Lord, ‘God, I am going to end this Daniel fast tonight at midnight unless You confirm to me today that I should continue my Daniel fast.’ At 10 in the morning he began to study, and Brian saw a young man he did not know come in. He greeted this young man and said, ‘My name is Brian Kim,’ and the man answered him, saying, ‘Hello, my name is Daniel Fast.’ His name was Daniel Fast, which means ayuno de Daniel; it works in English... The young man’s name was literally Daniel Fast, as it is in English. Do you understand?

God was prophetically telling Brian, ‘Continue your fast because through your fasting you are removing powers in the heavens.’ And he had a dream—the reward of fasting—and he saw a group of people, thousands of people in Washington, D.C., with tape over their mouths bearing the word ‘LIFE.’

How many of you have seen people with tape over their mouths on the news? That is our group. We have done what the dream told us to do. And we stand in front of the Supreme Court with this tape over our mouths, not protesting but appealing to a Court, pleading the blood of Jesus and saying, ‘Abortion ends in this place, in the name of Jesus.’ The news media have prophesied life throughout the world by taking pictures of these young people, and they are prophesying the very thing they believe they oppose. It is the wisdom of God to contend in the heavens and cry out to the nations, ‘Life, life. Amen.’

So for that reason we have launched this house of prayer in Washington, D.C., and now the Lord has directed us to come here to the city of Boston. For the Lord gave me a dream about a 40-day fast and told me, ‘Wherever this ministry, The Call, goes, I will establish My houses of prayer.’ In other words, it is not enough simply to hold an event; you have to sustain what you have attained with a 24-hour house of prayer, with Moses lifting his hands toward heaven and with the Joshuas and Daniels fighting on the ground, on the earth.

We are launching a house of prayer at the very gates of Harvard University. And we are going to see whether God is greater than the dominion of humanism in this universe. We are crying out and calling for 40 days of fasting, from March 1 through April 9, from Ash Wednesday to Palm Sunday. April 9 is the centennial of the Azusa revival, the first Pentecostal revival of the twentieth century. Key national leaders are calling for this fast. And we are looking for one million people to fast and pray for 40 days so that the Lord will pour out His Spirit upon America.

We believe, as the prophets are saying, that this is not only the centennial anniversary of Azusa Street, of the Pentecostal revival, but that the Lord is coming. The Lord is coming. As the writer says, when you see a cloud the size of a man’s palm, if you put your head between your knees and begin to pray for the rain to fall, there are already signs of an outpouring of the Spirit.

Just last night I was in Maine. People are being converted in a cold state—drug addicts—and we were hearing reports that at Northwestern University and Asbury University young people are pouring out in repentance. There are signs that God is coming, and we need an army to rise up to fight the Lord’s wars.

I do not believe it is an accident that Roberto and I are connected this morning. And I do not believe it was an accident that prophecy came forth this morning—that the hand of God is upon this man to bring leadership to this city and to unify prayer. Perhaps that could be the bow that fires the little arrow of our house of prayer so that it may contend day and night.

God gave me a dream in 1996, and in that dream a Buddhist house of prayer was dominating the Christian house of prayer, but the Christian house of prayer began to rise from its lower position and began to dominate the Buddhist house of prayer. And the Lord spoke to me at that moment as though giving me a job description for my life: ‘Raise up a house of prayer that will contend against all the other houses of prayer.’

How will the young people of America be able to contend against the young people of Hamas, the fanatical Arabs who desire to be martyred, holding up their banners and saying, ‘Muhammad, one billion people are ready to die for you’? We need to find reserves in the heart of the church—through fasting, prayer and passion for Christ—that can contend against the Muslims and their houses of prayer.

I tell you, our battle against the Muslim houses of prayer is much greater than our struggle against Harvard, because these Muslim houses are being fueled by demonic spirits. And humanism is simply a group of secular people. The people of God need to stretch out the rod of God and destroy the edifice of humanism. So we are calling young people and older adults to enter into 40 days of fasting and prayer.

I am one of the people who is going to enter into that...... and bring your worship team one of those nights. And we are going to intensify that laser beam of our lives; we are going to intensify it. We are going to believe that God is going to do something powerful. When Daniel set his face—no distraction, nothing to bother or distract him—simply to break through, he did not know, and he was fasting without knowing, that demons were warring against his time of fasting and prayer. And we know that through Daniel’s prayer he gained dominion over all those lesser kings throughout the Persian Empire. The powers of Persia are rising again in Iran. Who is going to confront those powers? God.

That is why we are declaring these 40 days of fasting and prayer. We are looking for a core, a reserve of 40 young people from 17 to 30 years of age who want to devote themselves to 40 continuous days of fasting and prayer. He wants to know whether there is a little Latino fire right here in this place. And then, after those 40 days, we are prepared to launch a house of prayer that, by the grace of God, will not end until the well of revival begins to spring up again, until the ideology of humanism is brought down by the word of Psalm 8.

I believe that God wants to use the weak things to confound the wise. Scripture says that out of the mouths of children, You have ordained Your strength because of Your enemies, to silence the enemy and the avenger. When I consider the heavens, the work of Your hands, the sun and the moon that You have created, what is man that he should have knowledge? Glory to the Lord.

Little children who believe in a God—that atheist babbling—their prayers could shake the foundations. Do you believe that this morning?

Today, that is all I have. I have thrown in everything I had in reserve. Do you dare to join us in fighting that battle in the name of the Lord?

The truly big things are my children, for whom I am praying and fasting so that there may be a breakthrough. How many of you need a great victory from the Lord in your lives? How many need one? Raise your hands right now.

God, we pray for the grace of fasting and prayer to descend upon this people in the name of Jesus. We pray that they would take leadership for this city as a spearhead of intercession to destroy principalities and powers. Use the humility of Latinos to destroy the pride of Americans. Release dreams and visions upon this company of God. May a whirlwind of faith take place in the name of Jesus. Give them the keys to move history in the name of Jesus.

Do you now dare to receive the grace of the anointing of fasting and prayer? Because that is what is being released. Amen. Amen. ...... in the name of Jesus, we release revelation upon this people. Open it in the name of Jesus. God, we ask You to move the hearts of the young people so that they would tithe their youthful years to God, like Daniel, who was a teenager, yet he shook the universities of Babylon. May these young people pray and fast, and may they shake their schools in the name of Jesus. Go to English Version
