Summary: We were created to worship God, and we find our true purpose only when we humbly recognize that we are creatures called to glorify Him. As we draw near to Him in prayer, we must put His holiness, honor, and majesty before our own needs and desires. More than serving Him, we are to delight continually in His glory, lift our eyes to heaven, and give thanks for His blessings and wonders. When the heart is filled with reverence and joy in God, we can present our requests with confidence, for they will be aligned with His will. In this way, our lives honor and please the One who created us for His glory.
Humanity was created to worship God. A human being does not find the reason for his existence or the purpose of his life until he bows reverently at the feet of the Creator and gives Him glory and honor.
We cannot be truly human without first bowing our heads before the majesty of the Father and acknowledging that we are mere creatures, created to glorify Him and express His creativity and power.
Every time we approach God to communicate with Him through prayer, we must first hallow Him, give Him honor, and proclaim His majesty. This will be a sign that we are putting Him first. His honor and holiness must take precedence over our own requests and desires. Before expressing our needs to Him, we must express our reverence and our desire that His Name, His Person, be recognized in all their greatness and majesty.
Before being servants of God, we must be inveterate worshipers, perpetually intoxicated by a sense of the glory of God. Our greatest pleasure should be to lift our eyes toward heaven many times a day and worship God, expressing our gratitude to Him for all His blessings and wonders. The psalmist puts it this way: “Blessed is the man who fears Jehovah and greatly delights in His commandments” (Psalm 112:1). Psalm 37 says: “Delight yourself also in Jehovah, and He will grant you the desires of your heart.”
When our hearts are filled with a sense of worship and delight in God, then we are free to ask Him confidently, knowing that our requests will be aligned with His will. God will take pleasure in granting our prayers, and our lives will bring delight to the One who created us for His glory and honor.
