Dwelling in the Light

When a person dwells in the light of God, they are at peace with God; they know that they are walking under His Will. People can do whatever they want, but we have an Almighty God who covers us and blesses us.

There is a passage in Scripture that says we are children of light and not of darkness. Another passage also says that our weapons are not weapons of darkness but weapons of light. Therefore, a child of God dwells in the light, dwells in truth, dwells in honesty, dwells in justice, dwells in transparency. We, the children of God, do not have too many seams or too many compartments; we are simple people.

The Word of God calls us to be like children. It calls us to be innocent as doves, it says, although it also tells us to be wise as serpents; but there is a part of the child of God that is simple. The apostle James also says that the wisdom of God is like this; he says that it is simple, it is transparent, and that is important. We, the children of God, must be simple people, radiant people, transparent people. Let people see us and know what we are.

How sad it is when we see Christians who are opaque. You do not know whether they are telling you the truth; they hide things, do not speak the truth, tell lies, and manipulate in marriage, in parenting, in the Church, in their relationships with others, and even in their ministries. Many times, they always have a secret agenda, and people do not know whether they are being honest with them or whether they are always pursuing some ulterior motive they have in mind.

We, the children of God, are children of light, and we must dwell in the light. Those who know us must know us as honest people, people of our word. The Word says: let our yes be yes and our no be no. The reputation of a child of God must be such that they do not have to resort to saying, “I swear by this; I swear by that.” That is why the Lord says, “Do not swear by heaven or by the earth or by anything in this world; rather, let your yes be yes and your no be no.”

When you are a person of your word, a person of honesty and transparency, you do not have to go around performing heroic acts to make people believe you, because people know that we are people of our word and people of transparency. Our life is in their hands, and people read us because we are open letters.

And I believe that, in part, this is what the Lord is saying here, isn’t it? The one who dwells in the light does not stumble, but the one who dwells in darkness does. When we do not walk in honesty, clarity, and truth, when we are manipulative and always want to get our own way, that is where we run into problems. Let us be people of light. When you dwell in the truth, brother, sister, you do not have to fear anyone. No one can harm you because God will support you; God is with you. People appreciate you and trust you. God will defend you from anyone who wants to harm you. When you make a mistake, the Lord will be there to defend you, help you, and get you out of trouble because your heart is clean.

Let us be people of light; let us live in the light and minister in the light. Let us make sure that our human and social relationships are always radiant, clear, transparent, authentic, and honest. We are children of light, not of darkness, and if we dwell in the light, no one can harm us. May the Lord bless us, may His peace rest upon us, and may we always walk in the light of Jesus Christ.
