And don't lead us into temptation

The phrase "Lead us not into temptation" in the Lord's Prayer does not mean that God tempts us to sin. Rather, it is a request for God's mercy and grace to protect us from adverse circumstances that test our faith and stretch us to the point of breaking. It is a plea for a clear life that always enjoys God's favor and is exempted as much as possible from the rigors and sufferings of a fallen world.
