In Psalm 23, David expresses his appreciation for God's discipline. The rod and staff of the shepherd represent discipline and correction. Accepting discipline is a sign of God's love for us. As parents, we need to discipline our children in a way that inspires them rather than discourages them. God has given us a task to lead our children in the fear of God, and we need His help to do so. Discipline is necessary and leads to life.
