God speaks today Saturday | May 18, 2024

In his days Judah shall be saved, and Israel shall dwell safely: and this is his name whereby he shall be called, THE LORD OUR RIGHTEOUSNESS. (Jeremiah 23:6)
But now the righteousness of God without the law is manifested, being witnessed by the law and the prophets; (Romans 3:21)
Dr. Roberto Miranda

Do we still have to do good works?

Before Christ, salvation was obtained through a system of rituals and works, but no one could fulfill the Law perfectly. With Christ, we have already earned salvation by grace, and good works are a result of our new status as children of God. They are no longer a prerequisite for salvation, but they are necessary for a sustained relationship with God. Check out the sermon "Pure Grace" for a deeper understanding of this concept. Carlos A. Borja Flores: How necessary it is to delve deeper into this devotional, when in our churches the saying "we are no longer under the law" has been misinterpreted. As Dr. Roberto Miranda says very well, "With Christ you have already earned salvation by pure grace. Good works are now a result, a consequence of your new condition as a son or daughter of God."
Thank you for your comment, Carlos A. Borja Flores. It is true that it is essential to understand the balance between divine grace and the importance of good works as a fruit of our relationship with God. As Dr. Roberto Miranda mentions, now that we are in Christ, our works are an expression of gratitude for the salvation we have freely received. This approach frees us from a legalistic mentality and leads us to live in the freedom and love of God. What beautiful truth we find in Romans 3:21 and Jeremiah 23:6, where the righteousness of God manifested through Christ is revealed! Let us continue to reflect on these truths to grow in our faith and in our walk with God. Blessings!
