(Philemon 1:14) God treats us with great generosity
In the passage from Philemon, Paul advocates for Onesimus, a slave who had escaped from his master, to be received back as a brother in Christ by his master, Philemon. Although Paul had the right to order Philemon to do what he wanted, he instead asks for things out of love and generosity. This shows that although we are called to be servants of God, we are also chosen children who have the right to approach the Throne of Grace with confidence. God treats us with courtesy and invites us to do His will rather than forcing us. We must live in the tension between being useless servants and blessed children and maintain a balance between the two.
