A Full Life — Sealed with the Spirit
For my people have committed two evils: they have forsaken me, the spring of living waters, and hewed them out cisterns, broken cisterns, that can hold no water. — Jeremiah 2:13

Summary: Through faith in Jesus Christ, God has sealed us with his Spirit and given us new life. This seal confirms that we belong to Christ and guarantees our inheritance, security, and fullness. Although fears, hardships, and spiritual dryness may make us feel that something is missing, we should remember the blessings we have already received and seek God instead of trusting in our own cisterns. The seal also speaks of legitimacy and authority: merely appearing to be Christians is not enough. Our relationship with Christ must become visible in a transparent life, renewed by the Spirit and reflected in what we say and do. This moves us to joy, gratitude, and daily commitment.
God stamped His seal of grace on the lives of His children; He sealed us forever. The influence of His divine nature permeated our human condition, and when we were dead while still alive, He poured out His Spirit in full, with a transfusion of blessings to renew us with a new life, the guarantee of our inheritance in Christ
. “And the one who prepared us for this very thing is God, who gave us the Spirit as a guarantee” (2 Cor 5:5).
We do not often reflect on what we have, but rather on what we supposedly lack. We ask for blessings and fail to realize that we are already complete. Fears besiege us; the world’s misguided expectations slip through the gaps we leave open. Stress shakes us. Inner peace seems a difficult goal to attain. The spouse who was unfaithful to their partner, the child who leaves home to enjoy other freedoms without religious commitments, the father who has already lost hope that God will finally smile on him; low wages and a life overwhelmed by the daily struggle, low self-esteem. Spiritual dryness from too little faith. Rivers of living water that the heart has stopped pumping. “The one who believes in Me, as the Scripture has said: ‘From the depths of his being will flow rivers of living water.’” (John 7:38)
“Lord, where are You?”
“I am in you, beside you as always. How can you see Me if you do not seek Me, if you do not call on Me? Can you not feel My Spirit? Could it be that you have been digging your own cisterns, which cannot hold water because they are cracked?” (Jeremiah 2:13)
Through faith in Jesus Christ, God has sealed us with His Spirit. The spiritual seal speaks of our belonging to Christ. We belong to Him. We have been divinely chosen by God in His Son, the sole mediator of His spiritual blessings. It was His will. Yet those blessings are secured through an indispensable relationship with Christ, setting us apart from the rest of the world as He stamps the noble seal of the Holy Spirit on our hearts. Do we believe it? The seal is not only a symbol of belonging, but also of legitimacy and authority. It speaks of an inheritance for the day when God perfects the good work He began in us; it speaks of security and fullness, of the Father’s devoted care for us, His children.
Are you showing God’s seal in your daily life? A doctor’s prescriptions are not valid without the doctor’s stamp. You cannot show up at a pharmacy with a prescription unless it bears the signature and personal seal of the doctor or the institution that authorizes it. The same is true of God’s children. The world does not believe us if we do not show it the Spirit who has renewed our minds and transformed us. It is not a matter of looking like a Christian, but of being one. A life of fullness in Christ must be genuine and transparent, showing the power of the Spirit in what we say and do and making an impact on others.
Spirituality can be an unreliable indicator for those who see and judge us every day. We are “scrutinized” almost constantly by the very people we want to reach. Remember this from the moment you get up until you go to bed: you are sealed by God with His Spirit, a reason for joy and commitment, a source of gratitude for who we now are in Christ, life insurance forever.
