SUMMARY: Effective Christian leaders need both spiritual soundness and managerial excellence. They must have a passion for God and be able to think systematically, while also paying attention to administrative details. Christian leaders must reflect on the mechanical and administrative aspects of their ministries and master the necessary skills to ensure long-term success. A healthy balance between virtue and knowledge is essential.

Powerful ministries show not only spiritual soundness, but also prudence and managerial excellence. The balanced servant of God shows both wisdom and specific knowledge, passion for God, and the ability to think systemically.

The balanced leader thinks in spiritual terms, but also pays attention to detail. Merely loving God and living a godly life is not enough for the competent Christian leader. Obviously, this is extremely important. But it also requires that that love and that piety be accompanied by solid administrative skills, and a clear organizational understanding. Being godly and passionately loving God does not exempt us from being competent and disciplined in everything we do.

Christian leaders need to take time to reflect on the mechanical and administrative aspects of our ministries. The systematic study of the institutional aspects of our churches and ministries is required. We have to master the administrative skills and leadership dynamics that pertain to the service areas in which we are involved. Only in this way will we ensure that we bring forth prosperous and effective long-term institutions and ministries that can address all the needs of God's people. Certainly, as the Apostle Peter advises, both in the secular area and in Christian service we must maintain a healthy balance between virtue and knowledge (2 Peter 1: 5).
