God's peace is my rest

RESUMEN: Jesus promises us His peace, which surpasses all understanding and guards our hearts and thoughts. This peace is like the "Pillow of the Sea," which remains undisturbed beneath the storms and winds. True peace is found within us, even in the midst of difficulties, and allows us to rest confidently.

Jesus not only promises us peace, but also His peace. That peace that surpasses all understanding and that guards our hearts and our thoughts in the midst of the turbulence of life. (Philippians 4: 7) We can understand this better with the following illustration: In maritime science, there is something called "The Pillow of the Sea." This refers to the fact that below the surface of the sea, below that part that is stirred by storms and carried around by winds, there is a part of the sea that is never disturbed. When scientists scour the bottom of the sea and remove residues of plant and animal life, they find that those residues show signs of not having been stirred, in the least, for hundreds and thousands of years. The Peace of God in us is that eternal calm, which, like the "Cushion of the Sea", is too deep to be reached by any affliction or disturbance.

We ask ourselves then: Where is true peace? The answer is simple. It is not found in the circumstances that surround us, but within us. It is there, in the depths of our being, where a melody can resonate; even in the midst of the frustrations, vicissitudes, crises, problems, situations and diseases that come into our lives. When the peace of God is my rest, I can sleep peacefully and echo the song of the Psalmist (Psalm 4: 8) “In peace I will lie down, and likewise I will sleep; because only you, LORD, will make me feel confident ”.
