The blessing of meditation
Nancy G. MarquezThere is nothing better than stopping our hectic daily walk, to meditate on the greatness of God. We live in a world full of noise, commotion, a lot of talking, a lot of action, among other things, in such a way that it becomes a bit difficult for us to set aside time for meditation. Within the spiritual disciplines, which help us to maintain a healthy and balanced life in God, is the discipline of MEDITATION; but the discipline of meditation has been neglected. Many times we exercise in the other disciplines, such as: the discipline of study, prayer, fasting, etc., and this is very good, but we also have to discipline ourselves in meditation.
The psalmist had learned the importance of this. He expresses that his meditation on God was SWEET. We understand then that meditating on God and his works brings sweetness to our interior. A sweetness that is not given by anything in this world. But it doesn't stop there. After expressing that his meditation was sweet, the Psalmist expresses the result of it is REJOICE. It is wonderful to know that the Great God, Creator of the Universe and all that exists, gives us the opportunity to recreate ourselves in Him and in his works, through meditation and to have as a result an internal sweetness that produces joy. The more we discipline ourselves in meditation, the more joy we will experience in our daily lives. Let us remember the advice of the Apostle Paul when he said: "Rejoice in the Lord always, again I say, Rejoice!" But let us also remember that rejoicing is the result of the sweetness that comes as a product of meditation on God.
