Free mercy

SUMMARY: Believing or not believing in God does not affect a person's value to God. When a person seeks God and follows him, he shows infinite mercy and can give a new heart and spirit. Isaiah teaches that to find God, one only needs to look for him, and our relationship with God can satisfy our deepest longings at no cost.
Believing or not believing in God causes profound differences in the attitudes of a human being, but not in the value that person has for God himself. All human beings are valuable to God, so much so that he gave his only begotten son to open the way for everyone to a correct relationship with him. The experience that Christians call "salvation", "conversion" or "new birth", God does not deny anyone, nor underestimate someone because of their way of life or their previous beliefs. When a person decides to seek God and follow him, he shows his infinite mercy.
The Spirit of God does not object to entering a human heart because of his previous life, his social status, his political activism or his previous beliefs. The prophet Ezekiel puts the following on the lips of God: I will give you a new heart, and I will put a new spirit within you; and I will remove from among you a heart of stone (Ezekiel 36:26). The expression a heart of stone refers to a person who up to now has been reluctant to seek and obey God. To these people He can give a new heart and spirit, which among other things, means a new way of seeing and feeling the need for God. The prophet Isaiah in turn clarifies: All you thirsty, come to the waters; those who do not have money, come, buy and eat. Come buy wine and milk No money and no cost. Why do they spend money on what is not bread, and their wages on what is not satisfied? Listen carefully to me, and eat what is good, and your soul will delight in abundance. Incline your ear and come to me, listen and your soul will live. And I will make an everlasting covenant with you, according to the faithful mercies shown to David. (Isaiah 55: 1-3)
We could ask ourselves, how is it possible to buy without money? Currently you can buy without physical money through bank checks or credit debit cards. Many people buy using these means because they somehow feel that they are not spending money, which is a fallacy, because using these means they spend, precisely, more money.
When Isaiah speaks of buying without money and without price, he is teaching that to find God you only have to do one thing: look for him. He is available and he will not blame us at all, not even the fact that we did not take care of him before. Unlike human beings, who when we abandon them for something or have stopped doing what others expected a good fight awaits us before normalizing relationships, God simply opens his arms and embraces us. He is merciful and forgiving.
But the Isaiah passage teaches us something else: we spend money on things that, after all, only solve temporary needs and problems, so they don't fully satisfy us. However, our relationship with God is capable of delighting our soul, of satisfying our deepest longings. And all that at no cost!
