Three parameters to evaluate if we live a genuine and authentic Christian life
Jonatán ToledoSUMMARY:
First John is a letter that talks about what it takes to be an authentic Christian and is addressed to a group of Christians who have been attacked with an erroneous teaching. The letter deals with the different characteristics that one can take as a parameter to know if one is living a genuine and authentic Christian life. The purpose for which this letter was written is so that believers in the Name of the Son of God may know that they have eternal life. The letter gives three parameters with which we can evaluate if we are genuinely faithful people to God: believing in the real Jesus, practicing righteousness, and loving one another. Believing in the true Gospel is important and is proof of being authentic. Idolatry can take the form of anything that takes God's place in our lives, even good things. Christians can disagree about a thousand things and still consider themselves brothers in Christ, but there are some things that are not negotiable, such as salvation through faith in Christ on the cross.
To be a genuine Christian, one must believe in the death and resurrection of Christ for salvation, be changed by the Holy Spirit, and grow in love for others. While genuine Christians may struggle with sin, they will not continue to practice it. The world is under the influence of the evil one, but those born of God are protected by Him. We must seek to return to a genuine faith and rid ourselves of idols.
We ask for forgiveness for our idolatry and compromise of faith. We pray for a revival of authentic Christianity and a return to true worship. We ask for distractions to be removed and for a renewed honeymoon with God. We trust in God's faithfulness to keep us from falling and present us blameless before His Glory. Amen.First John is a letter that talks about what it takes to be an authentic Christian. And it is addressed to a group of Christians who have been attacked with an erroneous teaching as to what it means to be a Christian. They were being extremely challenged to change what it meant to be a Christian and adapt it to their lifestyle in the society where they lived.
And this letter is about what it means to be genuine, what it means to be a genuine, authentic Christian and to embrace those principles. It deals with the different characteristics that one can take as a parameter to know if one is living a genuine and authentic Christian life. The English ministry has just started to take shape here at our Church in the last few years and I believe that God is leading us to begin in a genuine and authentic Gospel.
